After receiving critical acclaim and box office sellouts earlier this season for Stephen Sondheim's Assassins and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Music Box Musicals will round out its inaugural season with an up-close-and-personal presentation of the cult classic Little Shop of Horrors at The Music Box Theater, 2623 Colquitt, Houston, TX, today, August 8 through August 31, 2013. For show times and more information on the cast and production, visit Facebook.com/MusicBoxMusicals.

One of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies has become a household name, thanks to a highly successful film version and a score by the songwriting team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. Little Shop of Horrors tells the story Seymour Krelborn - a down-and out skid row floral assistant who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination! The music, composed by Menken in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown, includes several well-known tunes, including the title song, "Skid Row (Downtown)", "Somewhere That's Green", and "Suddenly, Seymour".

The cast includes Michael J. Ross (Seymour), Kristina Sullivan (Audrey), Luke Wrobel (Orin), Jimmy Phillips (Mushnik), William Martin (Audrey II), Beth Lazarou (Chiffon), Teresa Zimmerman (Crystal), Arianna Bermudez (Ronnette), and Thomas Schanding (Audrey II Puppeteer).

MJR Theatricals/Music Box Musicals (a non-profit organization) was founded in 2012 by Artistic Director, Michael J. Ross and board members Danny and Robin Klaes. At its home in Upper Kirby's Music Box Theater, Music Box Musicals was created to provide, quality, intimate, professional theatrical experiences for the Greater Houston community with a focus on employing Houston-based theatre artists. Ross is passionate about providing opportunities for the great talent pool we have here in Houston. The long-term plan for the organization is to own its own facility where it can produce larger-scale productions, but still retain an "intimate theatre-going experience" for an audience.

Tickets for the Little Shop of Horrors are on sale now and range from $35-$45 - For reservations, call The Music Box Theater box office at 713.522.7722.
