Main Street Theater (MST) will open its 2015-2016 Theater for Youth season at the MATCH, the Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston, with a fully realized musical production of Goodnight Moon, the beloved children's classic by Margaret Wise Brown with iconic illustrations by Clement Hurd. Located at Main and Holman in Midtown, the MATCH is Houston's exciting new destination for performing and visual arts. MST's Theater for Youth is an anchor tenant of the MATCH.

Those attending one of the opening day performances (1pm or 4pm on Sunday, October 11) are invited to join MST for our MATCH Opening Celebration from 2:30 - 3:30pm. There will be face-painting, eats & treats, goody bags, and more. This event is free to those attending a performance that day. MST also invites everyone coming to Goodnight Moon, adults and children alike, to wear your pajamas to the show!

Goodnight Moon will play Sundays, October 11 & 18 at 1pm and 4pm and Saturdays, October 24 - November 7 at 1pm and 4pm at the MATCH, 3400 Main Street, Houston, TX, 77002. Ticket prices for public performances are $20 - $16. Tickets are on sale via phone at 713.524.6706 or online at MainStreetTheater.com. Group rates are available. No children under 3 are admitted in the theater (including sleeping babies).

Performances are also available for school groups. Call 713.524.9196 or visit the website.

About Goodnight Moon

"In the great green room, there was a telephone and a red balloon and a picture of -- the cow jumping over the moon..." Published in 1947, Goodnight Moon is the beloved bedtime story that has charmed and comforted generations of children. Brought to life with such characters as the 3 bears and the dish and the spoon, this classic short story is expanded to a fully realized musical production. Recommended for Pre-Kindergarten and up. Children under the age of 3 (including sleeping babies) are not allowed in the theater.

Page to Stage Book Club Meeting

On Saturday, October 10, MST will hold its Page to Stage Book Club meeting at the Blue Willow Bookshop at 10am. The club meets over the course of the season to talk about the books the MST Theater for Youth plays are based on, meet characters from the books, have a snack, make crafts, and hear a reading from the book. Children can bring their own copy of the book or purchase it at a discount at Blue Willow (located at 14532 Memorial Drive (at Dairy Ashford)). To RSVP for the book club, send an email to vstjohn@mainstreettheater.com. FREE to all.

Main Street Theater Supports Houston's Chapter of the Pajama Program

MST encourages everyone attending Goodnight Moon to bring NEW pajamas and books when you come to see the show.* We will donate what you bring to Pajama Program, a 501(c)(3), that provides new pajamas and new books to children in need, many of whom are waiting to be adopted. These children live in group homes, shelters and temporary housing facilities and are shuffled often from one place to another. Many of them have been abandoned, abused or neglected. Most of these children have never enjoyed the simple comfort of having a parent tuck them in at bedtime with warm, clean pajamas and a bedtime story. Some of the children are living with their families below the poverty level, in desperate need of food, clothing and shelter. The pajamas have come to represent people who care, and they offer security and love for a child abandoned in a shelter or waiting for a foster home. The books complete a nighttime ritual that so many of us took for granted... when Mom or Dad said, "Okay, get your pajamas on, and I'll be right in to read you a story." Children in transition seldom hear these comforting words. *Please note: MST cannot accept financial donations on Pajama Program's behalf.
