Encore Theatre, Houston Texas' other predominately African American Theatre will be presenting a rare staging of the Greek Tragedy "Oedipus the King" by Sophocles.
Among the most famous of the Greek Tragedies along with" Medea" and "Antigone" , "Oedipus The King" tells the story of King Oedipus who unwittingly kills his father, marries his mother and fathers his own half siblings.
Presented in a Classical Setting, Encore Theatre is boldly taking its audience back to the beginnings of Theater with this staging of "Oedipus the King".
While most African American Theater Companies are content to stick with the tried and true productions that are safe and familiar to its core audiences a la "A Raisin in the Sun" or the August Wilson canon, Encore Theatre has been showcasing works not commonly performed by African American Actors such as "Equus" and "Of Mice and Men"..
