Review: Adam Lambert Rocks Houston!

Halloween came early for all the Glamerts in Houston! American Idol alum and on again/off again QUEEN frontman Adam Lambert came to the Space City on Wednesday October 28th to show The Revention Music Center how to rock and roll.

This pre-Hallows Eve event was for all ages and many fans even came in costume, including Lambert himself modeling white contacts, pants with too many zippers to count, and a studded leather jacket. For all of the Glamberts out there, Lambert didn't dissapoint, mostly. The only blip in the evening came from Lambert's two-hour tardiness with only an uninspired costume contest and the energetic DJ Athenz to entertain fans in his absence. But once he graced the stage, opening with his hit "Evil in the Night," he had fans hooked and singing along. His facemelting vocals and vibrant stage presence lived up to the hype. Also noteworthy, was the lighting at the Revention Music Center, which lit Lambert up in neon pink against The Mix 96.5's backdrop.

Lambert stuck to mostly new material from his latest album 'The Original High,' which was released this past June, but did please his true fans with a few deep tracks from his freshman and sophomore albums. Crowd favorites included "What Do You Want From Me," "If I Had You," and "Tresspassing." 'The Original High,' which was given 3 out of 5 stars by Rolling Stone, is filled with uptempo, radio-friendly, bangers that are laced with thoughtful lyrics and catchy beats. Lambert performed many songs from this new album including "There I Said It." "When he [Lambert] started "There I Said It," I was captivated and chills ran down my spine. He's so electric onstage and one of the most underrated vocalists out there today. I've followed him since American Idol, and I'm a real fan. Seeing him live was an out of this world experience for me," said concertgoer Mitchell Morris, 26, of Houston.

Saving his covers for the end of the concert, Lambert covered both Janet Jackson and QUEEN. "Another One Bites the Dust" was incredibly played by the small but powerful band and one of the strongest vocals of the night. The Freddie Mercury comparison was quite deserving as Lambert held his own with the legendary singer. "Black Cat," which was made popular by Janet Jackson in 1990, was also a highlight of the evening touting strong vocals and intricate harmonies which Lambert himself admitted to the crowd were 'really difficult to do live.' Even after a late start, fans seemed pleased with the glamorous, energetic show and most seemed to leave on an 'Original High.' Visit Houston any time, Adam! Just leave the diva behavior for the stage and start on time! Excellent show!
