Andrés Orozco-Estrada Makes Debut At Houston Baptist University's Cultural Arts Center

Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada will step onto the conductor's podium at Houston Baptist University's Joella & Stewart Morris Cultural Arts Center for the first time since being appointed music director. The one-night-only performance featuring violin showpieces and romantic masterworks by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky will take place at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21.

Andrés Conducts Tchaikovsky will feature two of Tchaikovsky's most emotive scores, beginning with the Shakespeare-inspired Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy and ending with the composer's dramatic Fifth Symphony. Acclaimed violinist Paul Huang will join the orchestra for Beethoven's Romance No. 2 for Violin and Orchestra, Kreisler's Tambourin Chinois for Violin and Orchestra, and Liebesleid and Liebesfreud, two of the composer's Three Old Viennese Dances.

"It is an honor to have Andrés lead the Houston Symphony in a performance at the Joella & Stewart Morris Cultural Arts Center on the campus of Houston Baptist University," said HBU President Dr. Robert Sloan. "As burgeoning institutions that strive to engage and reflect our city, the most diverse in the country, HBU and the Houston Symphony are proud to deliver an enriching arts experience to our young and quickly growing community."

The concert, underwritten by Mr. Stewart Morris, will take place in the Linda & Archie Dunham Theater at theMorris Cultural Arts Center on the campus of Houston Baptist University located at 7502 Fondren Road, Houston, TX 77074. Tickets may also be purchased at the Houston Symphony Patron Services Center in Jones Hall (Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). All programs and artists are subject to change.
