A. D. Players to Present GODSPELL, 7/9-8/24
A. D. Players announces that Godspell will open July 9th and run through August 24, 2014 on their Grace Theater stage, concluding the company's 2013-2014 season.
Intensely moving and effective, the musical GODSPELL, one of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time, uses parables from The Gospel According to St. Matthew to tell the story of Jesus and his disciples. An unforgettable score by Stephen Schwartz including songs such as such as 'Day by Day,' 'Prepare Ye the Way,' and 'Light of the World,' combined with a variety of storytelling techniques create a powerful musical that has continued to electrify audiences.
"Godspell as conceived and directed by John-Michael Tebelak is a jubilant celebration. It is a religious experience to be felt joyously. It is a release of one's spirit into the larger heart of mankind. In brief, it is the belief of John-Michael and his generation that the passion of Jesus Christ was to teach love and joy in the hearts of people rather than hate or sadness."
The cast of Godspell includes A. D. Players' resident actors Braden Hunt and Stephen Hurst and guest actors Justin Cook, Katie Fridsma, Jennifer Gilbert, Stephanie Bradow Hunt, Beth Lazarou, Leslie Lenert, Daniel Miller, Chris Pool, Joey Watkins
The production team features scenic design by Robin Gillock, lighting design by Andy Vance, properties design by Trisha Wise, and costume design by Donna Southern Schmidt. Directed by Kevin Dean, music director Jesse Lozano, and choreographed by Braden Hunt.
