Roseanne Barr Kicks Off Blue Note Comedy Series in April

Blue Note Hawaii, the state's premier venue for the world's most celebrated artists, is pleased to expand its horizons with a new and ongoing comedy series, kicking off with Roseanne Barr in April. Tickets previously purchased for the Roseanne Barr show in November will still be valid for the April dates. Tickets purchased for November 4 will be valid for the April 8 show, and tickets purchased Nov. 5 will be valid for April 9. All tickets are on sale now at www.bluenotehawaii.com. 
IONA Contemporary Dance Theatre To Perform At POW! WOW!

IONA Contemporary Dance Theatre is excited to announce their appearance at the opening block party of the 2017 Pow! Wow! on February 11. Dancers from IONA's inventive production 'Paint By Number' will appear at the Kaka'ako event from 7:00 - 8:15 p.m. at Agora and on the street. Audience members will be a part of the interactive experience, getting to paint the dancers.

Jazz songstress Karrin Allyson makes her Blue Note Hawaii debut for four nights, followed by soulful GRAMMY® Award-winning songwriter Marc Cohn. Other notable artists include Mike Izon, Tsun Hui Hung, Meleana Brown, Maryanne Ito, Tavana, Donavon Frankenreiter, Max V, Willie K, Blayne Asing, Israel Vibration & Roots Radics, Kaumakaiwa Kanaka'ole and DeAndre Brackensick.

"Moana" star Auli'i Cravalho will make her Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra  (HSO) debut in "A Night on the Red Carpet" on Friday, February 17 at 7:30 pm. Featuring a parade of hits under the direction of Maestro Richard Kaufman, "A Night on the Red Carpet" brings to life unforgettable film scores. The voice of Moana in the Disney blockbuster, Cravalho will perform "How Far I'll Go," written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song. The HSO is thrilled to welcome Cravalho in this concert event that also showcases music from the award-winning soundtracks to "Gone with the Wind," "The Witches of Eastwick," "Forrest Gump," and many more. Honolulu Theatre for Youth presents the world premiere of Home, a short play for the littlest of theatre patrons by Annie Cusick Wood. Show times are Saturdays February 11, 18 and 25 at 9:30 and 11: 30 a.m., at Tenney Theatre on the grounds of The Cathedral of St. Andrew. (The 11:30 a.m. performance onSat., Feb. 18 will be ASL-interpreted.)

The Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra (HSO) will welcome acclaimed violinist and conductor Joseph Swensen on February 18 and 19 in a dazzling program featuring masterworks by Schubert and Mozart. The concert titled "Schubert 'The Great'" has been updated to reflect a change in program; Maestro Swensen, who will conduct from the violin spotlight, will replace Maestro Rune Bergmann, who has withdrawn due to an illness in the family.

Celebrate the New Year with the Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra (HSO) and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony - a joyful celebration of music, community and hope - on Today, December 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Friday, December 30 at 7:30 p.m. Maestro JoAnn Falletta leads the HSO, performing with the O?ahu Choral Society and Artistic Director Dr. Esther S. Yoo, and nationally noted guest soloists Rachel Schutz, soprano; Charlene Chi, mezzo-soprano; Kip Wilborn, tenor; and Jeremy M. Wong, baritone. Considered by many to be the greatest piece of music ever written, Beethoven's final symphony has become a universal anthem of humankind, with a message of optimism and faith at the dawn of the New Year. Its majestic closing movement featuring Friedrich Schiller's poem "An die Freude" ("Ode to Joy"), with additions made by the composer himself, is a breathtaking experience.

Here's one New Year's resolution that's easy to keep: Make plans to enjoy beautiful live symphonic music with your ohana and the Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra (HSO). The HSO opens 2017 with "Made In America" - a stellar afternoon of American music led by HSO Artistic Advisor Maestro JoAnn Falletta and featuring pianist William Wolfram on Sunday, January 8 at 4 pm. This matinee concert showcases great American composers of today such John Corigliano, as well as icons Gershwin and Bernstein. The centerpiece of the afternoon is Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F major. "Made In America" also features Barber's The School for Scandal Overture and John Corigliano's Phantasmagoria Suite from his opera The Ghosts of Versailles, which was first performed at the Metropolitan Opera in 1991.

Dayamrita Chaitanya, to share the teachings and inspiration in a special public talk entitled, "Nature Is Our Home." The famous humanitarian, affectionately known as Amma, was recently invited by Pope Francis to the Vatican to speak about ending human slavery. Amma's Senior Disciple, Br.
