MEIN FREUND ARTHUR - An Electronic Dance Opera

A New Musical by Stefan M. Lang & Jan Büter

A World-Premiere Immersive Musical Thriller

World Premiere: January 23, 2027 | Maschinenhaus at Kulturbrauerei, Berlin (Germany)

With MEIN FREUND ARTHUR, a high-voltage new musical arrives in the underground beating heart of Berlin. Fusing cutting-edge Electronic Dance Music (EDM) with contemporary Broadway storytelling and operatic drama, this 110-minute adrenaline rush explores the dark underbelly of global celebrity, toxic industry exploitation, and fractured identity.

At the center of the storm is DJ Tom, an internationally celebrated electronic artist suffocating under the relentless machinery of global festival tours, streaming quotas, and panic-fueled isolation. But Tom’s chart-topping genius is not entirely his own. Lurking in the shadows is Arthur: his reclusive ghostwriter and creative powerhouse, starving for the recognition denied to him.

Hounded by a predatory music industry and alienated from the only people who see the human being behind the superstar brand, Tom’s world begins to unravel. When Arthur steps out of the shadows to seize the spotlight for himself, the show hurtles toward a catastrophic confrontation where creator and creation collide.

• The Sound: An electrifying hybrid score redefines modern musical theatre. Anthemic Broadway songs crash into soaring EDM tracks, performed live by a fierce five-member cast, acoustic instruments, and studio-grade club layers.

• The Experience: Staged inside the raw, industrial brick walls of Berlin's iconic Maschinenhaus, the production eliminates the fourth wall. Audiences stand directly on the club floor, dancing to the driving club beats while watching Tom fall apart right before their eyes.

• The Core Themes: Rooted in the brutal realities of the electronic music industry, the piece explores burnout, mental health, and the toxic pressure to perform—asking what price an artist pays to keep the crowd dancing.
