This July, the historic Olavinlinna Castle in Savonlinna will once again serve as the enchanting backdrop for the renowned Savonlinna Opera Festival. Running from July 4 to August 2, 2025, the festival offers a rich tapestry of operatic performances, blending timeless classics with Finnish masterpieces in a unique medieval setting.
Macbeth (July 4–15): Verdi’s gripping tale of ambition and fate, featuring baritone Ludovic Tézier in the title role.
Turandot (July 5–25): Puccini’s final opera, renowned for the aria "Nessun dorma," stars Ewa Płonka as the icy princess and Amadi Lagha as Calaf.
Boris Godunov (July 11–24): Mussorgsky’s Russian epic, showcasing deep male choruses and grand scenes.
The Last Temptations (July 22–30): Joonas Kokkonen’s Finnish opera, presented in collaboration with Tampere Opera.
The Fairy Queen (July 29–August 2): Purcell’s baroque masterpiece, inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
