The Philadelphia Fringe Festival, presented by FringeArts, is a citywide celebration of artistic innovation and contemporary performance. Each September, the festival transforms Philadelphia into a hub for creativity, featuring over 1,000 performances across a wide variety of disciplines, including theater, dance, music, visual arts, and interdisciplinary works. The festival embraces the spirit of the international Fringe movement, allowing artists of all backgrounds to participate without limitations. Performances take place in both traditional and non-traditional venues, from theaters and galleries to parks and public spaces, creating an immersive experience for audiences. With a mix of independently produced performances, curated programs, and collaborations with Festival Hubs and producers, the Philadelphia Fringe Festival continues to be a leading platform for experimental and contemporary arts.
Artists interested in participating must register through Eventotron, the online platform where festival applications are managed. Registration opens on February 1, 2025, and all performances must be finalized by June 6, 2025, to be included in the official festival print guide. Shows finalized by this date will also receive free printed signage to display at their venue. Artists who finalize their details after this deadline, between June 7 and July 15, 2025, will still be included in the festival but will not appear in the print guide or receive festival signage.
Once registered, artists must ensure their show information is complete, including details such as performance dates, venue, ticket price, and promotional materials. Weekly sales reports will be provided to artists beginning in early August, followed by daily reports in mid-August. Final ticket sales reports and door lists will be sent two hours before each performance. Artists are required to track their attendance throughout the festival and submit their final attendance report and post-festival survey by October 5, 2025.
Artists interested in participating in the Philadelphia Fringe Festival must pay a registration fee, which varies depending on the submission date. The early registration fee is $20 for applications submitted before June 6, 2025. After this deadline, artists may still register, but a late fee of $55 will be applied, making the total cost $75 for those submitting between June 7 and July 15, 2025.
Ticket revenue is split between artists and the festival. Artists retain 100% of revenue from tickets they sell independently, such as at the venue door. However, 80% of total ticket inventory must be sold through the Fringe Festival Box Office, which retains 10% of ticket revenue for administrative costs. Additional discounts apply to specific audiences. Students and patrons under 25 years old receive a $5 discount on tickets priced over $20, while FringeArts members receive a 20% discount on tickets over $15. Groups of 10 or more can arrange for a 25% discount, and artists participating in the festival are eligible for $5 artist tickets to attend other shows, provided there are seats available.
Volunteering in the Philadelphia Fringe Festival not only makes you a crucial member of our team but also a supporter of festival artists and patrons. As a Festival Volunteer, you might be ushering for a performance, distributing Festival Guides, or assisting in making a show run smoothly. The opportunities, like the art itself, are endless.
Who makes the perfect volunteer? Anyone who loves the arts, ages 14 and up! Whether you are young or young-at-heart, we welcome passionate individuals who are eager to create a positive experience for artists and audiences alike. If you’re interested in volunteering, all you need to do is reach out to us at Volunteer@FringeArts.com. Please note that FringeArts requires all volunteers to be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination before participating.
In addition to festival-run opportunities, you can also join the Independent Volunteer Pool. The Philadelphia Fringe Festival spans the entire city, featuring over 200 independently produced performances and events from both Philadelphia-based and touring artists. These artists need your support, whether for full theatrical productions or intimate, DIY solo performances. By signing up for the Independent Volunteer Pool, you will be connected with artists and producers who are seeking extra hands. Please note that independent volunteers are not managed by FringeArts and will communicate directly with the artists or producers of the events they assist with.
