Manhattan Theatre Club's Sloan Initiative, a partnership with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation begun in 2000 with David Auburn's Proof, commissions, develops and produces new plays about math, science and technology. MTC awards an average of three commissions a year (more than 100 to date) for not-yet-written plays; playwrights apply between December 1 and March 1 with a one-page proposal describing the story and its scientific subject, plus a bio or resume. The Foundation also funds production grants for Sloan-related works, and commissioned plays are often presented in MTC's free public reading series.
Playwrights submit one-page proposal on a scientific, technological, or mathematical subject plus bio/resume.
Over 100 commissions awarded since 2000 (began with Proof). New commissions announced Aug 2026 (American Theatre).
