Circle in the Square Theatre School's Emerging Writers Residency is a new-works incubator that selects one play and one musical each year for a four-week residency with the school's student actors and faculty directors, culminating in a public reading on the Circle in the Square Broadway stage. Writers of any experience level may submit a full-length, unproduced draft during an August application window; first-round reading is blind and six finalists are interviewed. Writers must be within commuting distance of New York City and receive an honorarium ($500 per playwright; up to $1,000 per musical team), rehearsal-room and library access, and complimentary tickets, but no housing or travel.
