Preparation:
Prepare 16 bars of an up-tempo song (not from the show) and please have a contrasting ballad ready if asked. Also, prepare a 1-2 minute contemporary monologue and please have a contrasting monologue ready if asked. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided, but may not transpose. Please bring TWO sets of your stapled photo/resume.

Roles are available unless otherwise specified.
Luisa (the Girl) - 16 to 20 years old. Appears young, innocent. Romantic idealist with spirit. Soprano: B – high B

Matt (the Boy) - 18 to 24 years old. Also appears young. An innocent youth, yearning for adventure. Baritone/Tenor: A – high G

Hucklebee – 40’s-50’s, the boy’s father. Former Navy man. Meticulous gardener. Comic flair. Baritone: A – high F sharp

Bellomy – 40’s-50’s, the girl’s father. A merchant, also a picky gardener. Comic flair. Baritone: A – high F sharp

The Mute – Ageless, Male: a speechless presence who watches, acts as the wall and so on. Non-singing role

The following roles have been cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary.


El Gallo - CAST. The Narrator/Bandit. 35 to 45 years of age. Handsome, gallant, articulate and dashing. Baritone: A flat to high G

Henry - CAST. an ancient actor. Age 50+. An aging, over-the-top Shakespearian thespian. Non-singing role. Great comic style and excellent at misquoting Shakespeare.

Mortimer - CAST. The man who dies. Age 30+. The ancient actor’s valet and sidekick, pretending to be an American Indian. Has an outlandish accent. Physical humor required. Non-singing role.
