BREAKDOWN
WILD ROSE - SEEKING:
The following roles require a Scottish accent.
WYNONNA – (Female, 11) Wynonna is fiercely self-contained and quietly intelligent, carrying the disappointment of Rose-Lynn's absence with a maturity that makes her distance feel both protective and deeply sad.
STANDBY FOR ROSE-LYNN – (Female, White, 27) A fierce single mother of two and aspiring country singer from Glasgow recently released from a year-long prison sentence for drug trafficking—for which she continues to insist she was unaware of what was in the package. Now, she is weighed down in balancing her lifelong dream of country music stardom in Nashville and the responsibilities of raising two children. Must be a great country singer.
MALE OFFSTAGE COVER – (Male, Any ethnicity, 35-50) Covers two roles. SAM/AS CAST: Male, Late 30s-50. Susannah's husband. From a working-class background, he now runs his own successful conservatory business. Sexy, shrewd, hard-edged - not entirely friendly. ALAN BOYNE/AS CAST: Male, Late 30s-50. Alan has taken over as the lead singer in Rose-Lynn's band whilst she's been in prison. A cheesy crooner. Absolutely smackable. Looking for highly skilled singers and strong movers.
FEMALE SWINGS (2) – (Female, Any ethnicity, 25-55) To cover multiple roles in the ensemble such as a nurse, a receptionist, and Rose-Lynn's fellow prison inmates. Highly skilled singers and strong movers required.
FOLLOWING ROLES HAVE BEEN CAST:
ROSE-LYNN – (Female, White, 27) A fierce single mother of two and aspiring country singer from Glasgow recently released from a year-long prison sentence for drug trafficking—for which she continues to insist she was unaware of what was in the package. Now, she is weighed down in balancing her lifelong dream of country music stardom in Nashville and the responsibilities of raising two children. Must be a great country singer.
MARION – (Female, White, 50-65) Marion is a hardworking and pragmatic woman. She shoulders the responsibility of raising Rose-Lynn's two children while she was in prison. Her tough love and frustration with Rose-Lynn comes from a desire to see her accept her responsibilities and the realities of adulthood.
SUSANNAH – (Female, Black, 40s) Susannah is a Black woman from England, who now lives in Glasgow with her husband and children. Middle/upper-middle class. Kind, warm and well-meaning, but naive about her own financial/class privilege. She hires Rose-Lynn as a cleaner and, when she discovers her incredible musical talent, tries to help her - with varying levels of success.
JACKIE – (Female, 30s-40s) Jackie is the manager of the Glasgow Opry. Tough and no-nonsense, runs the room with authority and doesn't suffer fools or drama. Her deep history and loyalty to the Opry and those who perform there make her firm but not unsympathetic towards Rose-Lynn. Must be a great country singer.
SAM/AS CAST – (Male, 35-50) Susannah's husband. From a working-class background, he now runs his own successful conservatory business. Sexy, shrewd, hard-edged - not entirely friendly. Looking for highly skilled singers and strong movers.
ALAN BOYNE/AS CAST – (Male, 35-50) Alan has taken over as the lead singer in Rose-Lynn's band whilst she's been in prison. A cheesy crooner. Absolutely smackable. Looking for highly skilled singers and strong movers.
FEMALE ENSEMBLE – (Female, 25-55) Looking for highly skilled singers and strong movers to play various Glasgow residents (a nurse, a receptionist, Rose-Lynn's fellow prison inmates).
LYLE – (Male, 9) Lyle is a sharp, funny, emotionally open nine-year-old who masks his hurt with jokes and restless energy, clinging to the stability his grandmother provides while cautiously longing for connection with his mother again.
