Mainstage:

SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER by Oliver Goldsmith. Dir: Nicholas Martin. 1st reh: 7/5. Runs 7/27-8/7.

18th-Century comedy in which two well-bred young men arrive at the country estate of Mr. Hardcastle, intending to woo his daughter Kate and her cousin Constance, but when local mischief-maker Tony Lumpkin plays a practical joke on the city slickers, the Hardcastle household is launched into a dizzying, deliciously preposterous romp of mistaken identity.

Casting director’s note: “Seeking actors of all ethnicities.”

Miss Hardcastle:

30s. Mr. Hardcastle’s daughter. Heroine. Respects her father. Enjoys “French fippery”. Calculated, intelligent.

George Hastings:

30s. Charles Marlow’s close friend. Well-educated, brave.

Sir Charles:

60s. Charles Marlow’s father. Old friend of Mr. Hardcastle. Military background.

Mr. Hardcastle:

CAST (Paxton Whitehead). 60s. Kate Hardcastle’s father. Level-headed. Loves the old times. Man of manners. Demonstrates a wealth of forgiveness

Mrs. Hardcastle:

CAST (Kristine Nielsen). 40s/50s. Wife or Mr. Hardcastle. Corrupt and eccentric, over-protective mother to Tony Lumpkin. Loves material things. Blissfully unaware.

Tony Lumpkin:

CAST (Brooks Ashmanskas). 30s. Mrs. Hardcastle’s son. Mischievous, uneducated playboy.

Charles Marlow:

CAST (Jon Patrick Walker). 30s. Man of the city. Has come to the country to woo Miss Hardcastle. Educated. A bit of a playboy. Good friend to George Hastings. Timid around women he has feelings for.

Nikos Stage:

Your browser may not support display of this image. A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE by Tennessee Williams. Dir: David Cromer. 1st reh: 5/31. Run 6/22-7/3.

Casting director’s note: “Seeking actors of all ethnicities.”

Stella Kowalski:

Mid 20s. Blanche’s younger sister. A mild disposition visibly sets her apart from her more vulgar neighbors. Has the same time-worn aristocratic heritage as Blanche. Shares a robust sexual relationship with her husband, Stanley.

Harold “Mitch” Mitchell:

Around 30. Clumsy, sweaty and has unrefined interests like muscle-building. More sensitive and more gentlemanly than Stanley and his other friends

Steve Hubbell:

30s. Stanley’s poker buddy. Eunice’s husband. Brutish, hot-blooded, physically fit. Abusive husband.

Pablo Gonzales:

Hispanic, 30s. Stanley’s poker buddy. Like Stanley and Steve, physically fit and brutish.

Eunice Hubbell:

30s. Stella’s friend, upstairs neighbor and landlady. Steve’s wife. Represents the low-class, carnal life that Stella has chosen for herself. Like Stella, Eunice accepts her husband’s affections despite his physical abuse of her.

Stanley Kowalski:

CAST (Sam Rockwell). 30s. Stella’s husband. Polish ancestry. The epitome of vital force. Loyal to his friends, passionate to his wife and heartlessly cruel to Blanche. Practicality is his forte. Lacks ideals and imagination.

Blanche Dubois:

CAST (Jessica Hecht) 30s. Stella’s older sister. Loquacious and fragile. Though she has strong sexual urges and has had many lovers, she puts on the airs of a woman who has never known indignity. Avoids reality, preferring to live in her own imagination.

ONE SLIGHT HITCH by Lewis Black. Dir: Joe Grifasi. 1st reh: 6/14. Runs 7/6-7/17.

Modern-day farce that mocks the all-too-human desire to shape our own destiny. It’s Courtney’s wedding day, and her mom, Delia, is making sure that everything is perfect. The groom is perfect, the dress is perfect, and the decorations (assuming they arrive) will be perfect. Then, like in any good farce, the doorbell rings. And all hell breaks loose.

Casting director’s note: “Seeking actors of all ethnicities.”

Delia Coleman:

Late 50s. The Mother. In a constant state of panic.

Courtney:

Woman, 30s. Freelance writer. Has just published her first novel, which was almost successful. Questioning her own bohemian creativity.

Ryan:

Early 30s. Courtney’s ex-boyfriend, who, until nine months ago, had lived with Courtney for two and a half years. Left of center. An endearing dreamer who can get lost.

Harper:

Man, 30s. Astute. Logical. Terrified and cocky. Erudite. Wealthy. Studying to be a psychologist. Engaged to Courtney.

Doc Coleman:

CAST (Mark Linn-Baker). 60s. The Father. General practitioner. Charming, eccentric conservative. Usually straight up.

Melanieani:

A DOLL’S HOUSE by Henrik Ibsen. Translation: Paul Walsh. Dir: Sam Gold. 1st reh: 6/28. Runs 7/20-7/31.

Casting director’s note: “Seeking actors of all ethnicities.”

Nanny:

Woman, 50s. May be Caribbean; possibly not American. English is not her first language.

Nora:

CAST (Lily Rabe). 30s. Very excitable, and on a high from the news that her husband’s career is taking off. Feels everything deeply. Wraps everyone around her finger.

Torvald:

CAST (Hamish Linklater). 30s. Ambitious young lawyer, myopically focused on his ascending career. Lots of love and lust for his colorful wife.

Kristine Linde:

CAST (Lili Taylor). Late 30s – 40. Very grounded, hard-working, tired, with dry wit.

Dr. Rank:

CAST (Matt Maher). Man, late 30s – 40s. Dying of congenital syphilis. It would be good if actor looked ill. Self-deprecating, sweet and in love with Nora.

Nils Krogstad:

CAST (Oscar Isaac). Man, 30s. Lawyer whose exterior reads as mistrustful, but who we learn is actually a good man. Trying to live down a life of mistakes and misfortune.

TOUCH(ED) by Bess Wohl. Dir: Trip Cullman. 1st reh: 7/12. Runs 8/3-8/14.

Kay loves her older sister Emma. Or is it Christina? Christine? Matilda? After spending eight years institutionalized and medicated, Emma has changed more than just her name. Determined to get back the brilliant sister she remembers, Kay rents a cabin in the woods, and she and her boyfriend Billy hide the sharp objects, from butcher knife to cheese grater. Perhaps quality time with loved ones, some home-cooked meals and games of Scrabble® will succeed in restoring Emma to health where her psychiatrists have failed.

Kay:

28. Science teacher. Emma’s sister. Over-compensating, guarded, detail-oriented. Derives meaning from taking care of her sister, and uses this to hide from the world. Her bitterness is just below the surface.

Emma:

30. Kay’s sister. Has been hospitalized for a long time, due to many suicide attempts. Sarcastic, quick-witted, self-deprecating. Highly intelligent. Wants to be well, wants to love well.

Billy:

40s. Kay’s boyfriend/fiancé. Well-known novelist in a bout of writer’s block. Laid back, intelligent. Wants to better himself and support the burdens that Kay carries around. Has a quick and natural bond with Emma.
