Please prepare EITHER a short monologue OR a short song OR a one-minute monologue and 16-bars of a song. Audition material may not exceed 2 1/2 minutes. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music.

SEEKING:
- Will Foster (This role is cast) (20s) — Irish-American Miner and World War 1 Veteran. Headstrong and charismatic. A dreamer in spite of a million reasons to give up. Strong Tenor.
- Charlotte Hayes (20s) — Irish-American coal camp school teacher. Quick-witted and fearless. She is a budding labor activist. Mezzo/Belter.
- Eli Carter (This role is cast) (20s-30s) — Young, African-American labor organizer for the United Mine Workers. Quick-talking, passionate, and incredibly charismatic. Must be able to deliver a complicated high energy patter song. Tenor.
- John “Tex” Robinson (This role is cast) (50s) — African-American coal miner. Stoic, protective leader of the Heron Creek Crew. A commanding elder presence who sets the tone for the younger miners. Baritone.
- Jimmy O’Neil (20s) — Irish-American. Will’s best friend and Charlotte’s confidante. He is a miner and part-time inventor who is hard-of-hearing from an injury in World War. - Tenor/Baritone (for ensemble singing)
- Don Chafin/Horace Blackburn (40s) - The ruthless, imposing anti-union sheriff of Logan County. “Good ol’ boy” energy and not to be messed with. Baritone - also sings in ensemble.
- Giovanni “Twig” Berardo (This role is cast) (17) — Young, hot-headed Italian immigrant miner, easy to anger. Tenor.
- Henry “Fish” Fisher (30s) — Soft-spoken miner who follows the others’ lead. Eventual actor should play guitar. Bari-tenor.
- Foreman Jackson and others (30s-40s) — Bitter and petty foreman of the mine. Tenor/Baritone.
- Deputy Carl and others — Country bumpkin police deputy, comedic chops. Tenor/Baritone.
- Effie Johnson and others - female ensemble roles. Mezzo.
