BREAKDOWN

Jay “The Sport” Jackson dreams of being the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. But it’s 1905, and in the racially segregated world of boxing, his chances are as good as knocked out. When a crooked boxing promoter hatches a plan for “the fight of the century,” “The Sport” just might land a place in the ring with the reigning white heavyweight champion.

Seeking:

Jay:
late 20s- mid 30s, Physical Requirements: 6’ – 6’3”, weighs 190-210lbs, Athletic build. African American, an athlete through-and-through, but one who operates with the swagger of an artist. A lovable bravado. Keenly aware of how he is about to change history. Stubborn. Kind. Complicated. Must be strong rhythmic mover

Wynton:
late 40s - 50s, African American, Jay's trainer, a face that's seen a lot. Smart enough to operate in a professional world, scrappy enough to roll up his sleeves and fight in a back alley when necessary. A paternal figure, former athlete of another era. Must be strong rhythmic mover.

Nina:
late 20s - 30s, African American, Jay's fierce older sister; protective mother; highly attuned to social injustice; challenges Jay’s path at every turn; immovable, stern, smart, loving. Must be strong rhythmic mover.
