BREAKDOWN

[JOSH COHEN] (Male, 30’s, Bari-Tenor) An empathetic, kind, and lovable mess. JOSH is broke and perpetually single, but a good person who does the right thing at any cost. He gets robbed, rejected, and is faced with an enormous moral dilemma which tests the limits of his goodwill. Strong baritone/tenor with great comic timing. Any and all instrument ability is very helpful, especially percussion, but not necessary.

[NARRATOR JOSH] (Male, 30s, Tenor) Engaging, and charming in a geeky cool way. He never leaves the stage, telling the story of what happened to him a year ago as it gets played out by another actor. Part troubadour, part stand-up comic, the role requires a strong tenor voice, good rhythm guitar skills and an ease talking to an audience. Other instrument ability a major plus. While it would be nice for Narrator Josh and Josh to have a physical resemblance, it is not necessary. Their comedic rapport is far more important.

[WOMAN 1 - “A LOT OF PEOPLE”] (Female, 30’s) A comic tour de force role for a woman who can play a sexy college girl in one scene, an Indian customer service representative in another, a Jewish grandma…etc. Someone great with varied characterizations, who can also be real. Strong singing voice required, and musical instrument ability helpful. Could potentially play: Young Woman (Baby/Amy)Betsy, Jen, Nightmare Girl, CVS Girl, Anne Shyman, Crazy Dog Lady, Tara, Information Woman, Josh's Mom, Irma, Housekeeper, Samuel Cohen, Neil Diamond.

[MAN 1 - “A BUNCH OF PEOPLE”] (Male, Any age, Any Ethnicity) A role for that hilarious music director who would be great onstage but never gets the chance! Any ethnicity! Roles include a gruff landlord, Josh’s curmudgeonly father and a disgruntled middle manager. Excellent musical/musical director skills needed. Ideally piano player who can play guitar and a bit of a wind instrument, plus any others. Could potentially play: Landlord (Mr. Konadaris), Bill from the office, Guy from Willy Wonka, Josh's Dad, Other Josh Cohen (sick in bed)

[WOMAN 2 - “A BUNCH OF OTHER PEOPLE”] (Female, Any age) A rockstar role for a drummer or bassist with acting ability, or an actress with drumming or bass ability. She must be a strong singer (comfortable with rock); plays many comic characters with numerous featured vocals. Other instrument ability a major plus. Could potentially play: Nina Kasper, J Date Mary, Anne Shapiro, Claire, Aunt Bea, Barbara Frank, Prez of AONAR, Paris Hilton

[MAN 2 - “THE REST OF THE PEOPLE”] (Male, Any Age, Any Ethnicity) A role for a bass and/or drummer with acting ability, or an actor with bass or drum ability. Character man. Plays everyone from a Southern gentleman to Darth Vader. Other instrument ability a major plus. Could potentially play: Dan from HR, Maurice from the office, Man in Woman's hat, Uncle Jeremy, Dewey, Buzzy Frank, Mr. Remblatt, Doctor, Darth Vader

[WOMAN 3 - “AT LEAST ONE MORE PERSON”] (Female, Any Age)
A role for a multi-instrumentalist with a few fun acting features. Plays Diane: A pretty and endearing music teacher who hates talking in front of people. The more instruments she has some experience with the merrier. Could potentially play: Hang-On Kitty, Diane.
