Christmas Eve:

Gary Coleman:

Played by a woman. Yes, that Gary Coleman. He lives on the Avenue, too. He's the superintendent. Belt alto.

Kate Monster / Lucy:

Kate: Kindergarten teaching assistant, a bit older than Princeton. Soprano. Lucy: Vixenish vamp with a dangerous edge. Alto-belt.

Mrs. T / Bear:

T: Ancient. Kate's boss. Bear: Cute teddy-bear type. Mezzo.

Nicky / Trekkie Monster / Bear:

Nicky: A bit of a slacker. Lives with Rod. Trekkie: Reclusive creature obsessed by the Internet. Bear: Snuggly, cute teddy-bear type. Baritenor.

Princeton / Rod:

Princeton: Fresh-faced kid, just out of college. Rod: Republican investment banker with a secret. Baritenor.

Holly:

Woman, 20s. Confused, running away from impending marriage in an upper-middle-class family in the suburbs. Sings “How Can I Be Sure”, “Different Drum”, “Let Me Be”, “Happy Together”. Mezzo.

Curtis:

Man, 20s. Holly's straitlaced fiancé. Chases after her to bring her back to where she belongs, which he believes is by his side as a dutiful wife. Sings “How Can I Be Sure”, “This Guy's In Love With You”, “For What It's Worth”, “Happy Together”. Baritenor.

River:

Man, 30s. Leader of our tribe of hippies. Laid-back flower child with both a wife (Saige) and a girlfriend (Janis). He's the Pied Piper of Peace and Free Love. Sings “Grazing In The Grass”, “People Got To Be Free”, “Signs”, “Spinning Wheel”. Baritenor.

Mama:

Woman, 40s-60s. Earth mother of our tribe, the moral maypole that everyone circles. One word or gesture can command attention from the tribe, yet her warmth for mankind and love of the universe are her main attributes. Sings “Make Your Own Kind of Music”, “Words of Love”, “Get Together”. Alto.

Coyote:

Man, 20s. Seemingly stand-offish, yet ultimately warm and friendly. Easily befriends Holly and helps her become a full tribe member. Likes Donovan. Sings “Somebody To Love”, “Dream A Little Dream of Me”, “San Francisco”. Tenor.

Saige:

Woman, late 20s - early 30s, any ethnicity. River's wife-in-common. Warm center. Caustic on the outside to cover any pain inside. Sticks with her husband, even as he hangs with his new girlfriend. Sings “Dream A Little Dream Of Me”, “Piece Of My Heart”, “Somebody To Love”. Mezzo.

Rufus:

African American man, 30s. Returned Vietnam War vet. War protestor and agitator, early Black Panther-type. Sings “War”, “Piece Of My Heart”. Baritenor.

Janis:

Woman, 20s. River's newest girlfriend. Pregnant. Always hanging on to River and at his side. A bit subservient to the power of her man. Sings “Somebody To Love”, “Words of Love”. Mezzo/soprano.

Donovan:

Man, 20s. The ultimate stoner, always in a haze. Always trying to pull one over on someone. Likes Coyote. Provides the drugs for Curtis's cathartic experience. Sings “Crystal Blue Persuasion”, “Piece Of My Heart”. Tenor.

Willow:

Woman, 20s. Flower child to the hilt. Best friend to Donovan. Absolute believer in better living through chemistry. Sings “White Rabbit”, “Crystal Blue Persuasion”, “Words of Love”. Mezzo/alto.


Dizzy:

Man, 20s. Leader of the theatrical troupe, full member of the tribe. Sings and dances in all ensemble numbers. Good dance/movement a plus. Baritone/bass.

Daisy:

Woman, 20s-30s. Theatrical troupe member. Sings and dances in all ensemble numbers. Good dance/ movement a plus. Soprano.

The Engineer:

Man of Asian or (partially Asian) descent. Greasy wheeler-dealer. High baritone.


Thuy:

Vietnamese man. Determined military leader, promised to Kim. Pop tenor.
