Accompanist provided March 29 only. For March 29, please prepare a brief song. Bring sheet music in the correct key; accompanist is provided, but may not transpose. If interested in RING OF FIRE, bring/play instruments, if possible. No monologues on March 29.

For March 30, please prepare a comic monologue. No accompanist/no singing on March 30.

Please bring a picture and resume, stapled back-to-back. Resumes should include current mailing address, phone number and e-mail address (if performer has e-mail).

Theatre states, “As a stock theater, we try and have contractual obligations to hire a company of players that will appear in as many consecutive productions as possible—with two productions usually being the minimum. However we will hire jobbers for a particular show should the demands of the production require it.”

All dates are in 2011. All roles are available (i.e. not yet offered and accepted) unless otherwise specified. For pre-cast roles, auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.

RING OF FIRE Created by Richard Maltby, Jr. Concept: William Meade. Dir: Larry Tobias. Mus Dir: Chris Blisset. 1st reh: 7/5. Runs 7/19-8/7.

Musical journey through the life of Country music icon Johnny Cash. Told in his own words through a series of musical vignettes. We follow his progression from the Arkansas cotton fields through the days in Memphis and Nashville to international superstardom.

Theatre states: “For this play, we are seeking actors with an authentic country feel and sound and a genuine affinity for the music.”

Man 3:

AVAILABLE ROLE. 20s. Multi–instrumentalist, bass baritone, able to convey an authentic

country sound and feel. Resemblance to the young Johnny Cash is preferred. Instruments preferred: fiddle, mandolin, upright bass, banjo, piano and guitar.

Man 4:

AVAILABLE ROLE. 20s-30s. Multi-instrumentalist, baritone, able to convey authentic country sound and feel. Instruments preferred: fiddle, mandolin, upright bass, piano, banjo and guitar.

Woman 3:

AVAILABLE ROLE. 20s-30s. Multi-instrumentalist. Soprano w/country belt/mix.

Woman 4:

AVAILABLE ROLE. 20s-30s. Multi-instrumentalist. Mezzo with authentic country sound.

Man 1:

CAST. 40s. Multi–instrumentalist, baritone, able to convey an authentic country sound and feel. Instruments preferred: guitar, fiddle, mandolin, upright bass, banjo and piano.

Man 2:

CAST. 30s. Multi-instrumentalist, baritone, able to convey authentic country sound and feel. Instruments preferred: guitar, harmonica, mandolin, upright bass, banjo and piano.

Woman 1:

CAST. 40s. Multi-instrumentalist, soprano with country belt/mix. Must play piano well; other instruments a plus.

Woman 2:

CAST. 20s-30s. Multi-instrumentalist. Mezzo with authentic country sound.

Pastor E. L. Gunderson:

Man, 40-45. Has just married a young wife. The ladies all seem to have crushes on him, in a

respectful “pastorly” way. He is a bit competitive, and finds that he can truly relax when in the kitchen. Agreeable; knows that the church runs best when the kitchen is happy. Low: Bb (major 9th below middle C). High: Gb above middle C.

Mrs. Lars Snustad (Vivian):

60-70. Widow. The most conservative of the ladies, and matriarch of the kitchen. Sits at the center work-table on a stool almost as a throne, where she commands the work of the day. Her word is not to be tested, and her decisions are final. Very dry, Bea Arthur-type. Low: Ab below middle C (no lower than a Bb below middle C). High: E (major 10th above middle C).

Mrs. Gilmer Gilmerson (Mavis):

Late 50s. Farmer’s wife. Grandmother. Not afraid of work, and can fix anything mechanical, as well as do the books. Physical comedian, Carol Burnett-type. Somewhat butch, but not gay. Everyone loves her. Low: Ab below middle C. High: D (major 9th above middle C).

Mrs. Elroy Engelson (Karin):

40–45. Second-in-line to take over the kitchen. Neat and tidy in appearance, and quite pretty in a very conservative way, almost looking like Jackie Kennedy, with everything perfectly in its place. Charming, warm and has the most style. Signe’s mother. Low: Ab below middle C. High: D (major 9th above middle C). Should have a comfortable belt.

Miss Signe Engelson:

Early 20s. Karin’s daughter. Has ust started college at the University of Minnesota. She represents change. She would never really become a hippie, but she will like the styles once they are introduced at Sears in Minneapolis. She is pretty, like her mother, and very sweet, but not afraid to challenge others and speak her mind in a respectful way. Low: A below middle C. High: Gb above middle C.
