MAMMA MIA!

John Vaughan- Director/Choreographer

Lyndon Pugeda - Musical Director

SOPHIE: Donna’s headstrong 20-year-old daughter, Sophie is determined to have what her mother never had: a traditional family.

SKY: Sophie’s fiancé is a former stockbroker who got tired of the cutthroat world of Wall Street.

TANYA: One of Donna’s oldest and best friends, Tanya has married several millionaires, but has never found the right man. Wild and sensual, she catches Pepper’s eye.

ROSIE: Another of Donna’s old friends, Rosie is an author of cookbooks.

ALI & LISA: Two of Sophie’s friends who have come for the wedding.

PEPPER & EDDIE: Donna’s employees, these two are the bar-staff, waiters, boatmen and general help around the Taverna. Both are relaxed and good-natured.

HARRY BRIGHT: Although he was known as the wild “Head Banger” when he first knew Donna, today Harry is a respected banker.

BILL AUSTIN: A well-known travel writer, Bill has visited the far reaches of the earth, but is afraid of making a commitment.

FATHER ALEXANDRIOS: The minister of the island

ENSEMBLE: Strong singers and dancers. All races, ethnic backgrounds, and sizes, with a contemporary, hip look who sing well, some featured male ensemble roles have dance specialties for which Russian split jumps and acrobatics are a plus.

Karl Warden - Choreographer

JACK KELLY: Male, 17 - 22 years old. Handsome, passionate and charismatic leader of the Newsies. A street-smart kid with a dark artistic soul right beneath the bluster. Not a blowhard. This kid's the real thing. Must have a great pop tenor voice. LEAD

DAVEY: Male, 16 - 21 years old. A thinker. Raised in a home as opposed to the other Newsies, Davie is the book-smart counterpoint to the other boys. The voice of reason. A nice Jewish boy. Must have a great contemporary tenor voice. PRINCIPAL

LES: Male, 10 -12 years old. The fearless kid brother of Davey. Excited by everything the world has to offer and eager to join in the adventure. Fun is this kid's middle name. Must sing really well. PRINCIPAL

JOSEPH PULITZER: Male, 40s. The boisterous forefather of Wm. F. Buckley Jr, Glen Beck and Rupert Murdoch. An on point, know it all, politician. Impolite and impatient with the world. Must sing well. PRINCIPAL

KATHERINE PLUMBER: Female, 17 - 22 years old. The strong willed daughter of Pulitzer. This young lady drips smarts, opinions and confidence. A young Katherine Hepburn or Ellen Page. This damsel needs no prince to save her. Must have a great pop/contemporary musical theater voice with a high belt. PRINCIPAL

CRUTCHIE: Male, 17-22 years old, any ethnicity. A slight, sickly boy with a huge heart. He walks with the aid of a crutch due to a bad leg, but that doesn't hold him back from being right in the middle of any mischief. A real charmer. PRINCIPAL

MEDDA : Female, 40s – 60s, any ethnicity. A vaudeville star of the Bowery variety. Risque, tough, with a big voice and GREAT comic delivery. PRINCIPAL

Ensemble:

NEWSIES – age 18-32, any ethnicity. Must dance extremely well. 5’11” and under. Singing a plus; tumbling a plus.

FEMALE ENSEMBLE – age 20-35. any ethnicity. Must sing and move well.

CHARACTER MALE ENSEMBLE – age 40-65. Must sing and act well and be able to play multiple roles.

THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME

Claude Frollo - Archdeacon of Notre Dame Cathedral and the most powerful cleric in Paris, he is the reluctant caretaker of Quasimodo. He will do whatever it takes to rid the city of the “vermin,” even as he lusts after Esmeralda. Calculating, manipulative, and obsessive. Gender: Male. Age range: 40’s to 50’s. Vocal range: E2-Bb4

Quasimodo- The deformed bell-ringer of Notre Dame and Claude Frollo’s charge. Lonely and staunchly obedient to Frollo, he possesses a vivid imagination that brings to life the bells and gargoyles of the cathedral. Despite his shyness and uncertainty, he quickly befriends Esmeralda. Big-hearted, and brave when need be. Gender: Male. Age range: 20’s to 30’s. Vocal Range: Bb2-C5 (MUST have at least a strong Bb but C preferred)

Esmeralda-A beautiful and free-spirited woman who possesses the strong sense of justice and morality that Frollo lacks. Compassionate, she frees Quasimodo from the frenzied mob at the Feast of Fools and, against her better judgment, falls for the cocky Phoebus. Gender: Female. Age range: 20’s to 30’s. Vocal range: E3-D5

Captain Phoebus de Martin-Returning to Paris after serving in the war, Phoebus takes up his new position as Captain of the Cathedral Guard. Overconfident yet charming, this handsome, strong soldier makes the ladies swoon, yet his moral compass is also strong, and he openly defies the corrupted Frollo. Gender: Male. Age: 25 to 35. Vocal range: A2-Ab4

Clopin Trouillefou-Clever and charismatic. An air of mystery surrounds Clopin, who often leaves the scene in a puff of smoke. As the master of ceremonies for the Feast of Fools, he is witty and playful, but he boasts a darker, serious nature when not performing for the crowd. Gender: Male. Age: 30 to 40. Vocal range: D3- F#5

Jehan Frollo=Claude’s reckless younger brother. With Florika, he fathers Quasimodo, who he leaves in his brother’s care. Wild, passionate, and strong-willed. Gender: Male. Age: 20 to 30. Vocal range top: F3-Eb5

Florika-Quasimodo’s mother. Gender: Female. Age: 20 to 30. Vocal range: E4-F#5

Father Dupin-A priest of Notre Dame, and Claude and Jehan’s guardian. Gender: Male. Age: 40 to 60. Vocal range: C3-A3

Tribunal-A judicial officer. Gender: Male. Age: 20 to 50. Vocal range top: G2-E4

Saint Aphrodisius-A stained-glass image that comes to life. Gender: Male. Age: 30 to 50. Vocal range: B3-E4

Congregation (Ensemble)-Gargoyles, soldiers and citizens of Paris. Gender: Both. All must be fantastic singers and able to hold difficult harmonies. Some movement.

Choir-On-stage Vocalists to enhance the “full” sound required for the score.

CHICAGO

Rick Pessagno - Director/Choreographer

JD Dumas- Musical Director

First Non-AEA: 8/11, First AEA: 8/27, Open: 9/12, Close: 9/29

Roxie Hart: Age 25-40. Innocent, sexy, desperate, selfish. Roxie is not very bright and never thinks about the consequences of her actions before she says or does things. Every move is selfish, every idea foolish and ill-considered, and yet she remains strangely sympathetic because we know her selfishness is not malicious; but childish. All Roxie cares about is getting into Vaudeville. Needs to be a strong actress, singer and dancer. (mezzo)

Velma Kelly: Age 25-45. Sarcastic, sexy, tough, funny. Velma is a former vaudeville performer who also serves as the hostess. She often talks directly to the audience. She killed her husband and her sister after finding them together. Used to being the headliner she learns to hold her tongue and make nice to save her vaudeville career. Needs to be a strong actress, singer and dancer. (alto)

Billy Flynn: Age 35-60. Sexy, persuasive, manipulative, masculine. Billy is a suave, educated lawyer who can persuade anyone to do anything. Billy will take any case as long as it is sure to put money in his pocket. Billy is a lot like a Hollywood Agent. Needs to be a strong character actor who can sing and dance well. (tenor)

Matron “Mama” Morton: Age 35-65. Sexy, funny, powerful and tough. The matron of the Cook County Jail who believes that all favors she gives should be reciprocated or paid for. If Billy is the Agent, Mama would be considered the Manager. Needs to be strong character actor who can sing well. (alto)

Mary Sunshine: Any age. Looking for a male soprano or counter tenor who can sing legitimately up to a high B flat who must play a woman with the image of a good natured talk show hostess but is actually a high powered gossip columnist. Must be a good comedian. (soprano)

Female/Male Ensemble: Ages 18+. Looking for strong dancers and singers. Several featured acting roles .
