Breakdown

ABOUT
In Lewiston, Idaho, Alice and Connor sit by their roadside stand selling cheap fireworks while developers swallow the land around them. Promised a condo in the new development, their future is secure. Enter Marnie, Alice’s long lost granddaughter, proposing to buy the land to save her family legacy. Marnie and Alice will become reacquainted with each other’s deeply held secrets, uncertain pasts, and hopeful futures.

SEEKING

MARNIE:
(Female. Early to mid twenties). Grounded, strong, and fiercely intelligent, but masking an inner anxiety and desire to reconnect with her grandmother. Growing up in Seattle with an alcoholic father, she learned to be mature and self-sufficient from an early age, and uses a gruff exterior and resolute single-mindedness to achieve her goals.

ALICE:
(Female Early to mid seventies) Marnie’s grandmother whom she hasn’t seen since she was a small girl. Living on a plot of land on the outskirts of a small town in Idaho her entire life, her exterior is self-reliant, brusque, and argumentative, under which lies a deep well of pain.

CONNOR
(Male Fifties) Alice’s long-time friend and roommate. An essentially optimistic and well-meaning presence, the son of a preacher and a life long butcher slash taxidermist, he’s more or less hidden his sexuality from friends and family most of his life. While Marnie and Alice spar, he desperately tries to keep the peace, holding out faith that there’s a chance for grandmother and granddaughter to reconnect.
