BREAKDOWN

All characters speak with British accents, with a number of cultural and regional variations.

· Actors must have strong language skills with verse and classical style text.

· Singing ability a plus but not required.

· Most actors will also double in various scenes as attendants, Members of Parliament, protestors, etc.

KING CHARLES III, formerly Prince Charles. Male, late 60’s. Must have some resemblance to living Prince Charles. He has been the heir to the British throne his entire life, now he must take his place as king. He knows all the protocol but he is oddly naïve and idealistic when it comes to what is actually expected of him by the government. He attempts to take the high road and lead with integrity. (Caucasian)

CAMILLA, Duchess of Cornwall, wife of Charles. Female, late 60’s. Must have some resemblance to living Camilla. The Princess Consort, she is devoted to her husband, her family, and the traditions of the monarchy. Charles' second wife, she is from the aristocracy and has loved Charles most of her life. (Caucasian)

WILLIAM, Duke of Cambridge, eldest son of Charles and Diana. Male, mid 30’s. Must have some resemblance to living Prince William. Tall and aristocratic. The next in line for the throne. A deep-rooted sense of duty been engrained in him since birth. He is charismatic, shrewdly observant, and extremely protective of his family and their legacy. His natural ambition is bolstered by his wife, Kate. (Caucasian)

CATHERINE (KATE), Duchess of Cambridge, wife of William. Female, mid 30’s. Must have some resemblance to living Kate. Strong, smart, stylish and stunning. Her ruthless ambition is masked by impeccable poise and charm. Calculating, forceful, and often manipulative, she was born a commoner and is willing to do anything to protect her royal status.(Caucasian)

PRINCE HARRY, youngest son of Charles and Diana. Male, early 30’s. Must have some resemblance to living Prince Harry. Next in line for the throne after his brother William. While the press has branded him the bad boy of royals, he’s actually lonely and surprisingly shy. He feels trapped by the royal lifestyle and craves normality. He genuinely falls in love with Jess and wants to shield her from public scrutiny. (Caucasian)

JAMES REISS, Press Secretary to King Charles III. Male, 50’s-60’s. Charles’s pragmatic press secretary and longtime friend. Though intensely protective of the entire royal family, he ultimately turns on Charles in favor of William. When push comes to shove his loyalty is to the crown and not the man.

TRISTAN EVANS, Prime Minister. Male, 40’s-50’s. A member of the Labour Party. Logical, rule-abiding, and often inflexible, he struggles to adjust to Charles’s reign as King. He has worked well with the late queen but finds Charles and his stubborn beliefs a wall too high to climb. He tries desperately to hold the government together and conduct business as usual.

JESS, Female, 20’s. A down-to-earth Republican (in the British sense), she is an art student from a working class family in Reading. Fiercely intelligent and a political rebel, she is unimpressed by all things royal. Attractive, confident and charismatic, her sudden fame makes her uneasy. Harry falls in love with her sardonic sense of humor and straightforwardness. (Person of Color)

MARK STEVENS, Leader of the Opposition. Male, 40s-50s. Head of the Conservative Party. Eloquent, logical, introspective; charismatic and cultivated. A career politician, practiced at the art of politics and dedicated to serving the people. Fast on his feet when he senses opportunity and can play both sides against the middle. Though they initially clash, he has a deep admiration and respect for Charles and his late mother. (Person of Color)

FEMALE 1, Female, Late 20’s-30’s. Strong and feisty. Plays:

SARAH, Chief Political Advisor to the Prime Minister. A member of the Prime Minister’s cabinet, she is blunt, dismissive of the royal family, and eager to move the nation forward.

FREE NEWSPAPER WOMAN, Works for the free publication, The Standard. Smart, working class. (Person of Color)

MALE 1, Male, 30’s. Middle Eastern or South Asian, good comic sense. Plays:

SPENCER, Friend of Harry. Privileged, judgmental, and obsessed with his social standing, he’s one of Harry’s posh friends.

NICK, The Prime Minister’s eager assistant.

PAUL, a kebab vendor. Bright and upbeat, a Cockney of Arab or Indian ancestry with a healthy perspective, he offers Harry good advice. (Person of Color)

MALE 2, Male, 30’s. Character type, good comic sense. Plays:

COUTTSEY, Friend of Harry. A bit of a wild man with a big personality, he comes from a wealthy family, though he is less concerned with his social standing than with his social life.

CLIVE, Underbutler to King Charles III. Dutiful and eager, but a little befuddled.

SIR MICHAEL, Head of the Metropolitan Police. The sharp-eyed chief of police.

MALE 3, Male, 40’s-60’s, character actor. Plays:

BUTLER, Roberts, the loyal, long-standing Butler to King Charles III.

ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY, Performs the coronation of the next monarch of the United Kingdom.

MALE 4, Male, 40’s. Authority figure. Plays:

SPEAKER of the House of Parliament Presides over the House’s debates, and tries to keep order.

SIR GORDON, Chief of Defense at Buckingham Palace. Business-like and brusque, but loyal to Charles.

MALE 5, Male, 20’s-30’s. Sturdy and reliable. Plays:

TERRY, Royal Security, Bodyguard to Prince Harry.
