Equity actor/singers for various roles in the 2018 Season Musicals:


CHICAGO and XANADU

PREPARATION

Actors will read a side from either Chicago or Xanadu (sent upon confirmation of appointment) and present 16 bars from a brief song in the style of either show. Sides will also be available on the day of for walk-ins. Bring sheet music; accompanist provided. Bring picture and resume.

Performances are Tuesday 7:30, Wednesday 2pm and 7:30, Thursday 7:30, Friday 8pm, Saturday 3pm and 8pm, Sunday 7:30pm

BREAKDOWN

FORTUNE

[MAUDE] – Any ethnicity. A thirty-year-old fortune teller from Brooklyn. She can see the future. She really can. She hates her life, she hates her job, but believes that she is powerless to change it. She dons an overblown fortune-teller's voice and costume when she is working -- no one ever sees her as she really is.

[JEREMY] – Any ethnicity. Age Range: 30 – 40. An accountant from Brooklyn Heights. Desperate for love, Jeremy drives everyone away. He's remarkably naive and a very sweet and decent human being.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

[JANE] – Any ethnicity. Late 20s/ early 30s. The eldest and most beautiful Bennet daughter. Kind, idealistic, diffident. Always tries to do the right thing. May be doubled with MISS DE BOURGH

[LIZZY] - A year or two younger than Jane. Clever, spirited; can be sharp-tongued. Gets flustered, which makes her klutzy. Prides herself on good judgment. Not especially beautiful.?

[LYDIA] – Any ethnicity. 14. The youngest Bennet. Lively, prone to imitating others’ behavior and eavesdropping. May be doubled with Lady C.

[CHARLOTTE LUCAS] – Any ethnicity, same age as Lizzy. A practical girl with a good sense of humor. May be doubled with Mr. Bennet.?

[LADY CATHERINE] – Any ethnicity, Patrician Caesar-meets-drill sergeant. May double with Lydia.


[MISS DE BOURGH] – Any ethnicity, Lady Catherine’s daughter; a gremlin. May double with Jane.

[MR. DARCY] – Any ethnicity. Late 30s-40s. One of the richest men in England. Too proper for his own good; awkward in most social contexts. Prides himself on self- control and good judgment.

[MR. BINGLEY] – Late 30s-40s. Loves the world and the world loves him. Mr. Darcy’s particular
friend. Almost literally a dog. May double with Mary.

[MR. COLLINS] – Any ethnicity. A pedantic, obtuse man. Rector to Lady Catherine. May double with Wickham/ Miss Bingley.

[WICKHAM] – Any ethnicity. An unfairly handsome and charming gentleman. Raised with Darcy. May double with Collins / Miss Bingley.

Male or Female, depending on doubling and actor:
[MRS. BENNET] – The matriarch of the Bennet family. Mostly a silly woman, of mean understanding and variable temper. Hypochondriac. The business of her life is to get her daughters married.

[MR. BENNET] – The patriarch of the Bennet family. Finds amusement in absurdity; often looks for respectable escape from the chaos of his family life. Disappointed in marriage. May double with Charlotte.
[MARY] -? The third Bennet girl. Bit of a monster; prone to pendanticism and sulking. May double with Bingley. A dark goth Bronte character trapped in an Austen world.?

[MISS BINGLEY] - A very rich young woman. Fancies herself witty. May be doubled with Wickham/ Collins.

[NORA] – Any ethnicity, Age Range: 50 – 59, An independent, intelligent and very successful author.

[TORVAID] – Any ethnicity, Age Range: 55 – 59, Nora’s estranged husband; mild-mannered, keeps his feelings and emotions close to the vest, though he has many.

[ANN MARIE] – (THIS ROLE IS CAST) Any ethnicity, Age Range: 65 – 75, the Helmer’s nanny; honest, blunt and big-hearted.

[EMMY] – Any ethnicity, Age Range: 18 – 25, Nora’s and Torvald’s daughter; an old soul and a romantic; wise and mature in some ways, but still 18.
