CHRIS: 30s-40s. Black. A journalist. Overburdened, postpartum, newly divorced working mom; a reporter determined to get the story.
MARGARET: 40s-60s. Black. The First Lady. An impeccable combination of high fashion, corporate experience, and legal savvy; regal, sophisticated, brimming with bitterness and pent-up rage. Goes for the jugular.
JEAN: 30s-50s. Any ethnicity. Press Secretary. A high-strung, quick-witted woman who can handle any pressroom and neutralize any scandal. A single working mother whose pristine life is threatened only by other people withholding information from her, and by her attraction to a disastrous former partner.
BERNADETTE: 30s-50s. White. The president's jailbird, drug-dealing, lesbian sister. A whirlwind of chaos and mayhem. A savvy kingpin with endless 'connections,' a wicked sense of humor, and raw sexual magnetism. Jean's kryptonite.

HARRIET: ROLE IS CAST. late 40s-50s. Any ethnicity. Chief of Staff. The consummate political bulldog, she writes the President's speeches, puts out fires, and keeps the ship of state afloat behind the scenes. Fiercely competent and decisive, every aspect of her life is in service of her career.
STEPHANIE: ROLE IS CAST. late 40s-50s. Any ethnicity. Personal Secretary. Has a photographic memory and speaks five languages, but is painfully unassertive and insecure, in perpetual fear of being fired.
DUSTY: ROLE IS CAST. 20s-30s. Any ethnicity. President's current dalliance. An eagerly patriotic, sex positive, entrepreneurial Midwest farm girl with more resourcefulness than meets the eye.

SEEKING:
DICKON: 16-25 (Range: Tenor, D3-G4) Martha's younger brother. Looks after the sick plants and animals within the Misselthwaite grounds — including Mary. He is a young man who is between the world of child imagination and adult reasoning. Befriends Mary and convinces her to take care of the Garden.
CLAIRE HOLMES: Age Flexible. Major Holmes' wife.
FAKIR: Age Flexible. (Range: Tenor, C3-B4) South Asian. Dies during the cholera epidemic and looks after Mary from beyond.
AYAH: Age Flexible. South Asian. Mary's caretaker in India. Dies during the cholera epidemic and looks after Mary from beyond.
MARY LENNOX: 11-13 (Range: Young Voice, Ab3-D5) A girl sent to live with her uncle, Archibald, when her parents die from cholera in India. Quite the curious explorer and often finding herself in trouble. Stubborn and always fighting for what she believes in.
COLIN CRAVEN: 10-12 (Range: Young Voice, A3-E5) Archibald's son. Spent his life in bed due to a heart condition. He is very stubborn and throws temper tantrums to get what he wants. He believes his father hates him for causing Lily's death.
THE FOLLOWING ROLES HAVE BEEN CAST:
LILY: ROLE IS CAST. 28-38 (Range: Soprano, Bb3-D6) Mary's aunt and Archibald Craven's wife. Died of a tragic accident within her garden and metaphorically haunts the walls of Misselthwaite Manor.
MRS. MEDLOCK: ROLE IS CAST. Age Flexible. Archibald's housekeeper. As cold as the Misselthwaite Manor.
DR. NEVILLE CRAVEN: ROLE IS CAST. 35-45 (Range: Baritone, C3-F#4) Archibald's brother. Trapped by the idea that he is responsible for the caretaking of Colin. Though Lily never loved him in return, he remains in love with her and is unwilling to move on and leave Misselthwaite.
MARTHA: ROLE IS CAST. 18-30 (Range: Mezzo-Soprano Belt, G3-D5) A faithful housemaid. Grew up near Yorkshire and has the accent to prove it. Although she is from a lower-class family, her wisdom is often far beyond her age.
ARCHIBALD CRAVEN: ROLE IS CAST. 35-45 (Range: Baritone, C3-A4) Mary's uncle and lord of Misselthwaite Manor. He has a hunchback. Haunted by the past and afraid of the future, he locks himself away both physically and mentally. Mary painfully reminds him too much of his wife, Lily, who died ten years ago.
BEN WEATHERSTAFF: ROLE IS CAST. Age Flexible (Range: E3-D#4) Head gardener. Secretly entrusted to take care of the garden after Lily's death. Knows a great deal about the history of the garden and the grounds it sits on. He has worked for the family for many years. He calls himself an old man.
MRS. WINTHROP: ROLE IS CAST. Age Flexible. Headmistress of a private school. Prides herself on nurturing girls with tempers. Mary seems to be more than she can handle.
ROSE LENNOX: ROLE IS CAST. 28-38 (Range: Soprano, A3-D6) Mary's mother. A dreamer from the past who doesn't understand how her sister Lily could truly love Archibald. Very loyal to her husband and refuses to leave India during the cholera outbreak that takes her life.
CAPTAIN ALBERT LENNOX: ROLE IS CAST. 30-40 (Range: Tenor, D3-A5) Mary's father. Tries to send Rose out of India during the cholera outbreak.
ALICE: ROLE IS CAST. Age Flexible Rose's friend.
LIEUTENANT WRIGHT: ROLE IS CAST. Age Flexible. Officer in Mary's father's unit.

PRINCESS WINNIFRED: ROLE IS CAST. (20s - 30s). Vocal Range - Belt (A3 to Dâ5), She is not the classical princess in any sense of the word. She can swim moats, lift weights and she prefers the swamps of home to a fancy castle. She is energetic, adventurous, independent, and optimistic.
QUEEN AGGRAVAIN: ROLE IS CAST. (50s). Vocal Range - Alto (A3 to B4), Very protective of her only son, Dauntless. She is a strong character that takes the stage with her presence.
JESTER: ROLE IS CAST. (20s - 50s). Vocal Range - Tenor (Dâ 3 to Aâ 4), Dancer. Has a hidden passion for show business. His loyalties lie with his friends, the King & the Minstrel.
PRINCE DAUNTLESS: ROLE IS CAST. (20s - 30s). Vocal Range - Baritone (A3 to E4), Still a mama's boy, but it is evident that he is ready to move on. He is child-like, naïve, with a likeable sense of innocence. He adores Winnifred and is in awe of her every step.
LADY LARKEN: ROLE IS CAST. (20s - 30s). Vocal Range - Soprano (Dâ 4 to Aâ 5), Dance Requirements: Light. Character Description: She is graceful, charming and in love with Sir Harry. She is very eager for Dauntless to marry so she can wed Harry before her little bundle arrives. She is eager to please and would never cause embarrassment to her love, Sir Harry.
SIR HARRY: ROLE IS CAST. (20s - 30s). Vocal Range - Tenor (C3 to G4), Dance Requirements: Light. Character Description: He is a handsome and manly knight, but a bit of a stuffed shirt. He may one day become the Prime Minister, if he can find a Princess to marry Dauntless, so he can wed Lady Larkin. He is chivalrous, brave, determined and a bit taken with himself.
MINSTREL: ROLE IS CAST. (20s - 40s). Vocal Range - Tenor (D3 to Aâ4), Has an air of confidence and enjoys telling the real story to the audience. Likeable and cunning when need be.
WIZARD: ROLE IS CAST. (40s - 60s). Vocal Range - Baritone (low: A2), The Queen's loyal confidante. He is magical, mysterious, and able to do several magic tricks. He possesses a sense of the dark side and showmanship.
KING SEXTIMUS, THE SILENT: ROLE IS CAST. (50s). Vocal Range - He is mute, due to a curse, but you always know what he is thinking. He is expressive, mischievous and playful with strong facial and physical comedy.
