BREAKDOWN

Please Note:

We are Casting a Latino-inspired production of Guys and Dolls with one performance in Spanish. Historically, there was a significant migration of Latin people coming to New York during the 1940’s and 1950’s. This immigration resulted in a proliferation of Latin night clubs and the very popular expansion of Latin entertainment into American society. We are looking for a cast who are conversational/well-versed in Spanish. A variety of characters will have accents and be able to ad-lib in Spanish.

[SKY MASTERSON] Male. Latino. Baritone B to Eb. 30’s - 40’s

Charismatic, cool and charming. Sky is a suave, intelligent, handsome and confident gambler who naturally commands others’ respect and attention, women love him and men want to be him.

[SARAH BROWN] Female. Caucasian. Soprano to High Ab. mid - late 20’s

Passionate, self-assured, principled, Sarah is initially a little too buttoned-up for her own good, beautiful, naïve about some things …underneath the Salvation Army uniform is a woman to be reckoned with

[NATHAN DETRIOT] Male. Latino. Baritone to High F. 35 – 50.

Strong comic actor. A funny, lovable rogue who is always slick-talking and struggling to stay one step ahead of the game beset upon on all sides-most importantly by his fiancée of 14 years, runs the local crap game.

[MISS ADELAIDE] Female. Latina. Mezzo to A3-E5. 30s to 40s.

Strong comic actress. The cold-stricken star of the Hot Box Review where she dances in very little and sings like a trumpet – with a heart as big as all of Nueva York, put-upon, not bright, classic show girl that’s long-suffering but always hopeful

[NICELY NICELY JOHNSON] Male. Latino. Tenor to high B flat. Late 20’s - 40’s.

Pal to Nathan Detroit, an irrepressible personality with a voracious appetite and boundless enthusiasm, comic, cheerful and likable. Brings the house down with “Rocking the Boat”

[BENNY SOUTHSTREET] Male. Latino. Baritone. D4-G5. Late 20’s – 50’s.

Upbeat, nervy, Nathan’s right hand man, loyal to a fault, a bulldog on guard…distinctively comic gambler with his heart on his sleeve

[HARRY THE HORSE] Male. Latino. 30’s - 50’s.

Side kick and mouthpiece to Big Jule, distinctive in character

Possibly very small in stature…

[BIG JULE] Male. Latino. Late 30’s +

Chicago gangster of such imposing size that his mere physical presence strikes fear into everyone. Powerful, intimidating, straight- talking bluntness.

[ARVIDE ABERNATHY] Male. Caucasian. Baritone. D4-F5. 60’s-early 70’s

Sarah’s grandfather Wise, warm and caring, harbours only the kindest intentions, nobody’s fool… wise to the ways of the world and the streets of New York…can have a brogue

[LT. BRANNIGAN] Male. Caucasian. 30’s-50’s

Hard-nosed, NYC detective, obsessive, the constant thorn in Nathan’s side, wise to the gangsters’ exploits, commands respect

[GENERAL MATILDA B CARTHWRIGHT] Female. Latina. Soprano to High C. 40 – 65

Powerful, matronly, no-nonsense and with a formidable presence
