One foggy night in San Francisco, Gregory, a psychology consultant with a life-long passion for the romantic and glamorous leading ladies of Hollywood’s “golden age”, has a near-death experience and is intruded upon by a mysterious figure, the Lady. But who is this apparition that has seemingly walked out of the silver screen? An inner guide from the Jungian collective unconscious? A living thought-form as described by the Tibetan Buddhists? Or a musical hallucination resulting from a small stroke or an undiagnosed nervous breakdown? Reluctantly guided by his unlikely muse, Gregory is pushed out of his safe, solitary reality and into a turbulent, dangerous relationship with a young and very beautiful male escort – a relationship that unexpectedly leads him to a deeper understanding of what it means to love.

Seeking:

Chance:

AVAILABLE ROLE. Early - mid 20s. Very beautiful (but not terribly expensive) male escort. Has a fine physique; probably doesn’t charge enough. Doesn’t know his own worth. Doesn’t care about his own beauty, except as a means for survival and attention. Though he believes his looks are all he’s got, his growing self-esteem flashes out in unexpected moments. The character’s professional edge is palpable, but his underlying youth and vulnerability could break your heart. Modern pop/rock style (i.e. not the traditional young Broadway tenor). High tenor. Role requires partial nudity and sexual situations (though no actual sex acts) with another actor (kisses, caresses, scene with a towel, lots of open shirts, etc.). No nudity at EPA.

Gregory:

AVAILABLE ROLE. 50. Gay. Still handsome, although he would argue he isn't. Charming, funny in a self-deprecating way. Loves the “golden age” of Hollywood; wanted to be a set designer but gave it up easily for an easier career as an organizational psychologist. Now semi-retired. Traditional Broadway sound (to contrast with Chance’s more modern/pop style); Gregory should also be capable of pop and jazz. Baritenor or high baritone. Role requires no nudity, but sexual situations (kissing, etc. – no actual sex acts) are involved.

The Lady:

CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. Played by a man. The Lady is an unidentifiable Hollywood silver screen icon. Wears a turban, and has the elegant, world-weary demeanor and glamour of a romantic star. She is an amalgamation of Marlene, Greta, Joan, Gloria, Tallulah, Bette D. and an extraordinary, uncanny female impersonator, able to fool the audience that she is a he. Actor also plays a Hindu Waiter, a Doctor and a Tibetan Rinpoche. Should have a female-like/high tenor voice. Song should be bluesy, standard jazz ballads like “One For My Baby” and/or European cabaret—Brecht/Weill, Jacques Brel, etc.
