Breakdown

This is a co-production between the Goodman Theatre (Chicago, IL) and the South Coast Repertory (Costa Mesa, CA)

You need only to submit ONCE to be considered.

Seeking the following role:

Sebastian Castillo:
Male Identified, 30s, Latino, Featured Singer
Sexy, super handsome, former bad-boy. Has been having a clandestine revenge affair with his gorgeous step-mother, FABIOLA (they are only a couple of years apart) to spite his father for throwing him out as a young man. He is scarred by the early death of his beloved mother Sofia. He has grown into a savvy business man and developed a conscience and need for true love. This role appears without his shirt on. Operatic Tenor or Tenor with lungs. Must sing a gorgeous heart wrenching ballad in Spanish like his life depends on it.

NOTE FROM PLAYWRIGHT AND DIRECTOR: An Ensemble of 10 Actors (5 women/ 5 men). The Actors are the Ensemble and the Characters of “Destiny of Desire”. This is very ensemble based, very “poor theater” concept. The idea while the Actors/Ensemble expect the piece will hit on certain classic conflicts of the telenovela genre, they ALL discover the story as it unfolds. At any point, the story may need them and they are ready to step in immediately. Once they enter as an actual Character: they are always truthful, committed, and in the moment of the given scene. No overacting. No camp. No parody. No fake Spanish accents. There is a heightened theatricality to the story; it is a delicious populist Greek tragedy, but it is still grounded in the humanity of joy and suffering, and steeped in the culture and community that creates it and celebrates it.
