Breakdown

This modern, streamlined take on one of the greatest musicals in the American musical theater canon features a cast of 8 (1 woman and 7 men) and showcases the youth, vitality and sexually charged triangle between King Arthur, Queen Guinevere, and Sir Lancelot. The creative team is looking for accomplished singers/actors who have facility with language and movement ability—keys will be adapted to their voices. All actors will be required to act as ensemble where needed, and play instruments if possible. Actors of any ethnicity are strongly encouraged to audition for every role.

Seeking:

ARTHUR:
Mid/late 20s to early 30s. Also must be able to credibly pass as 18 early in the play. Male. ANY ETHNICITY. Attractive and sexy, but not in a traditional way. We see him grow from a scrappy boy known as Wart, into a powerful king. Cerebral yet virile. Pleasant singing voice. Must be an excellent, preferably classically trained, actor. Shakespeare credits a plus, as are special skills like juggling, tumbling, playing a musical instrument, etc. Looking for an actor that can command the stage and the evening

GUENEVERE:
Mid-20s to early 30s. Also must be able to credibly pass as 18 early in the play. Female. ANY ETHNICITY. Attractive, though not necessarily traditionally so. Smart, with a touch of funny. There should be an underlying smoldering sensuality here. Looking for distinctive, must not be like any Guenevere we have seen before. Accomplished singer a must. Must be an excellent, preferably classically trained, actor. Shakespeare credits a plus, as are special skills like juggling, tumbling, playing a musical instrument, etc. Very brief, tasteful nudity.

LANCELOT:
Mid-20 to 30. Male. ANY ETHNICITY. Aggressively attractive, but not the usual square/cardboard pretty boy version. Smoldering sexuality. Magnetic. A stunning singer. Classical training in both voice and acting a plus, as are special skills like juggling, tumbling, playing a musical instrument, etc. Very brief, tasteful nudity.

MORDRED/SQUIRE DAP:
To play 18. Male. ANY ETHNICITY. Mordred is the ne’er do well bastard son of Arthur. Pleasant singing voice. He’s’ the bad guy, but not a simpering moustache twirler. Doubles in the first act as Lancelot’s valet Squire Dap, an old man. Must be an excellent, preferably classically trained, actor. Shakespeare credits a plus, as are special skills like juggling, tumbling, playing a musical instrument, etc.

SIR SAGRAMORE:
Mid 20s to mid 30s. Male. ANY ETHNICITY. Strong virile knight. Could be a character man. Must be excellent legit singer with big voice. Must be an excellent, preferably classically trained, actor. Shakespeare credits a plus, as are special skills like juggling, tumbling, playing a musical instrument, etc.

SIR DINADIN:
Mid 20s to mid 30s. Male. ANY ETHNICITY. Strong virile knight. Could be a character man. Must be excellent legit singer with big voice. Must be an excellent, preferably classically trained, actor. Shakespeare credits a plus, as are special skills like juggling, tumbling, playing a musical instrument, etc.

SIR LIONEL:
Mid 20s to mid 30s. Male. ANY ETHNICITY. Strong virile knight. Could be a character man. Tenor. Must be excellent legit tenor with big voice. Must be an excellent, preferably classically trained, actor. Shakespeare credits a plus, as are special skills like juggling, tumbling, playing a musical instrument, etc.

TOM:
A young man. Actor 18+ to play 16. Should sing very well. Adept at physical humor. Special skills like juggling, tumbling, playing a musical instrument, etc are a plus.
