Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and Calgary Philharmonic to Unite for ALBERTA IN HARMONY: THE PLANETS
Conductor Naomi Woo will lead 120+ musicians at Winspear Centre and Jack Singer Concert Hall
The Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra will join forces for a collaborative performance, Alberta in Harmony: The Planets, presented by National Bank, on Thursday, April 30 at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton, and Saturday, May 2 at Jack Singer Concert Hall in Calgary. Both performances are sold out, highlighting the strong audience demand for this rare collaboration between Alberta’s two leading orchestras.
In this rare co-production, more than 120 musicians will share the stage for an evening of monumental orchestral works, offering audiences a unique opportunity to experience the scale and impact of a massed ensemble performance.
Led by conductor Naomi Woo in her ESO debut, the program features Gustav Holst's iconic The Planets, a sweeping and imaginative orchestral suite that captures the vastness and mystery of the universe. The program also includes the ESO premiere of Become Ocean by Pulitzer Prize- and Grammy Award-winning composer John Luther Adams.
Joining the orchestras are Belle Canto and Cantilon Chamber Chorus, both under the direction of Heather Johnson, adding further depth and richness to this large-scale performance.
Both the Edmonton and Calgary performances are sold out.
