Celebrate La Famiglia At Village Players With OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS

The Village Players of Birmingham chases away the winter blues with the smart comedy, Over the River and Through the Woods, running three weekends March 8-24, 2019 at the Village Players of Birmingham.

This heartfelt comedy by Joe DiPietro brings the family experience to the stage as we meet Nick, a single man in New York, who takes time to visit his grandparents in their Italian American neighborhood for dinner at least once a week. On one of his visits, he announces that his employer is promoting him and relocating him to Seattle in a few months. His grandparents then conspire to introduce Nick to a "nice Catholic girl" as a way of enticing him to stay local. The conversations between Nick and his grandparents are as hysterical as they are poignant as the play takes us on a joyous roller coaster ride through Nick's decision making. A heartwarming and touching comedy, which celebrates "La Famiglia" (The Family).

Over the River and Through the Woods is directed by Ralph Rosati, who directed our 2016 hit musical, South Pacific.

Ralph, who is of Italian heritage, said this about why he wanted to direct this wonderful play; "I had the pleasure of being in the cast of Over the River and Through the Woods a number of years ago. When the opportunity to direct this play came along I took it. This was a chance to show our audiences how ethnic Italian people view a strong family structure. This play runs the gamut of emotions from great humor to heart-wrenching sadness. This play presents life at its funniest and its saddest."

Over the River and Through the Woods runs approximately 2 hours including one 15-minute intermission. Show dates and times are March 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. and March 10, 17 & 24, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $19.00 and are available online at www.birminghamvillageplayers.com or by calling the theatre box office at 248-644-2075.
