Des Moines Community Playhouse Adds THE KID WHO RAN FOR PRESIDENT to Season for March 1-17, 2013

By:

The Des Moines Community Playhouse has announced an additional title for the upcoming, 2012-13 season: "The Kid Who Ran for President," Mar. 1-17, 2013. This Kate Goldman Children's Theatre show will join previously announced "A Little House Christmas," Nov. 9-Dec. 2, 2012; "The Monster Under the Bed," Jan. 11-27, 2013; and "Seussical," Apr. 26-May 19, 2013.

This unexpected portrayal of a run for the White House is based on the book by Dan Gutman. Some kids want to be President when they grow up. Twelve-year-old Judson Moon wants to be President right now! "Grown-ups have had a thousand years to mess up the world," Judson explains. "Now it's our turn."

Soon, Judson and Lane Brainard -- his best friend and campaign manager -- realize that running for President is hard. You have to kiss a zillion babies, shake a zillion hands, and say a zillion "hellos." Then, there's the tough decision about which girl in school you should ask to be First Babe. And it's hard to finance a campaign with the profits from a lemonade stand. Judson's quest to preside over America is one full of unexpected twists.

Kate Goldman Children's Theatre season tickets are now on sale online and at The Playhouse ticket office, and are $52 for adults and $44 for students. Season ticket holders can also purchase tickets ahead of the public, and at a special subscriber rate, for "The Wizard of Oz," Dec. 7-30, 2012.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
