The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents "Shrek The Musical," July 11-Aug. 3. Tickets may be purchased online at dmplayhouse.com, by phone at 515-277-6261, or at the Playhouse ticket office, 831 42nd St.

In a kingdom far, far away, things get ugly when an ogre, not a handsome prince, shows up to rescue a feisty Princess (Jill S. Ziegler). Throw in a wisecracking Donkey (Ken-Matt Martin), a villain with a short temper (Mark Maddy), a Gingerbread Man (Lyndsy Darland) with attitude, and other fairy tale misfits, and you've got a mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily there's one on hand, and his name is Shrek (Lance Noe).

"Shrek The Musical" is part romance, part twisted fairy tale, and all irreverent fun. The Playhouse cast is directed by Ron Ziegler with music direction by Brenton Brown and choreography by Alison Shafer. Completing the cast are Samantha Arneson, Adam Beilgard, Kyra Berg, Michael Bielecki, Jonathan Brugioni, Kyra Casper, Aaron Coffey, Alexis Ananda Cole, Rusk Dorsett, Ruby Elwell, Rachel Forney, Kenny Lawson, Taylor Millar, Ann Robinson, Nicholas Root, Philip Sandager, Shauna Shaefer, and Jordan Skarin.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
