DM Playhouse to Present SARAH, PLAIN AND TALL
The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents "Sarah, Plain and Tall," Feb. 26-Mar. 13, 2016. Tickets may be purchased online at dmplayhouse.com, by phone at 515-277-6261, or at the Playhouse ticket office, 831 42nd St. "Sarah, Plain and Tall" is sponsored by John Deere.
In the 1900s, Kansas farmer Jacob Witting (Corbett Reeves), a widower with two children, Anna (Caitlyn Dean) and Caleb (Jack Gabby), places an ad in the newspapers seeking a wife. He receives a letter from Sarah Wheaton (Terri Mulhern) of Maine who says she will visit the family for a month to see how things work out: "I will come by train. I will wear a yellow bonnet. I am plain and tall."
"Sarah, Plain and Tall" is narrated by the adult Anna (Chloé Bender), reminiscing on the eve of her wedding. The story unfolds in a fascinating flashback to that often exciting, sometimes tumultuous month when Sarah and the Wittings came to know one another and learned a few things about themselves as well.
The Playhouse cast is directed by Allison McGuire. The cast includes Lorena Escobar, Thomas Gill, Tess Meggison, Ellie Miglin, Isabella Nielsen, Tyler Nunez, and Tony Tandeski.
The Playhouse is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the US. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
