The Fine Arts Center Theatre Company presents Stephen Sondheim's eight-time Tony Award-winning musical comedy thriller, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Jan. 22 - Feb. 14, at the SaG?Ji Theatre.

This suspenseful, heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous "barber-ism" and culinary crime tells the infamous tale of the unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against the judge who framed him. His thirst for blood soon takes its toll on his unfortunate customers, and the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop downstairs has the people of London lining up in droves for her mysterious new meat pie recipe!

Sweeney Todd - with music and lyrics by Sondheim; book by Hugh Wheeler - has a great sense of fun, mixing intense drama with howlingly funny moments of dark humor: audiences find themselves laughing hysterically one moment and gasping in surprise the next.

Sweeney Todd is directed by Alan Osburn, the Producing Artistic Director of the FAC Theatre Company. Osburn has worked as a producer, director, teacher, and actor for over 30 years. At the FAC, he directed Anything Goes, Brighton Beach Memoirs, Biloxi Blues, The Full Monty and Into the Woods, which was nominated for nine Ovation Awards in 2007 by the Denver Post, including Best Musical and Best Director.

Osburn will also star in the role of Sweeney Todd, his first appearance on the SaG?Ji Theatre since the 2005 FAC production of She Loves Me. In addition to his other acting credits he was seen as Inspector Javert on Broadway and the National Touring Companies of Les Misérables.

"The staff, cast, and crew are so excited about doing this show that there is a buzz that began last April," said Osburn. "This energy will definitely be transmitted into every detail of the production. It's not every day you get to do a show that won the Tony Award for: Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Set, ... the list goes on and on. It will be something very, very special."
