Kids' Night on Broadway Events Held at DCPA, Opens 9/22

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts has become a leader in implementing Kids' Night on Broadway, a national program that aims to engage children with Broadway plays and musicals. Created by The Broadway League (the national trade organization for Broadway theatres, producers and presenters), Kids' Night programs allow children ages six to 18 to see Broadway shows at a discount when accompanied by a full-paying adult, and often include pre-theatre parties, educational programs, restaurant discounts, parking discounts and a special edition kids' Playbill provided by Theatre Development Fund. The program aims to make theatre accessible, encourages theatre as a form of family entertainment, and builds larger audiences for the future. The Denver Center has three upcoming Kids' Nights on Broadway events, including Tap Dogs, Shrek and Blue Man Group. Tickets are now on sale at www.denvercenter.org/knob.

The next Kids' Night on Broadway at the DCPA is Wednesday, September 22 starting at 6pm, for the tap dance sensation Tap Dogs. Families can join KOSI 101 and momslikeme.com for this event by using promo code KNOB when ordering, and for every adult ticket purchased, they'll receive a child's ticket for free. There will be free activities in the Buell lobby on the Mezzanine level from 6pm-8pm, including an autograph signing by some of the cast members of Tap Dogs (from 6-6:20pm), coloring activities, and official Kids' Night On Broadway giveaways. The Denver Center Theatre Academy will host an interactive station using common everyday household items like sticks, pans and steel trash cans to explore rhythmic patterns. Plus, families can show their tickets at Rock Bottom downtown where kids will eat free with the purchase of an entrée.

Meredith Vieira, journalist, television personality, game show hostess - and mother - serves as the 2010 Kids' Night on Broadway National Ambassador. "I've always been a huge fan of the theater, and I have great memories of taking my kids to Broadway shows," said Vieira. "The idea of enriching the lives of children through the arts is very important to me. Experiencing Broadway is immeasurable to a child's imagination, and I am thrilled to serve as this year's Ambassador for Kids' Night on Broadway."
