Alamo Drafthouse Denver And Denver Actors Fund Host WEST SIDE STORY Sing-A-Long ImageBring the whole gang along on Monday, August 20 at 7 p.m. as Alamo Drafthouse Denver and "Denver Actors Fund Presents..." a sing-along to Leonard Bernstein's score and Steven Sondheim's lyrics in this groundbreaking musical hit."West Side Story Sing-A-Long" has full subtitles of the song lyrics on screen to make it even easier to sing along with, so get ready to rumble! Alamo Drafthouse Denver is located at 4255 W. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80204. Tickets are $20 at https://drafthouse.com/denver.

Our hosts for the evening will be powerhouse area vocalists Traci J. Kern and Ryan Belinak. Kern is the owner of the Traci Kern Voice Studio and vocal coach to many of the area's top performers. Belinak played Tony in Town Hall Arts Center's "West Side Story" in 2005. The pair will lead the crowd in singing throughout the film, encouraging your full-throated participation.

"West Side Story" is a musical that encompasses both catchy songs and emotional ones. One minute you'll have a hoot while the Jets sing "Officer Krupke," your heart will melt when Tony and Maria share a love song and then you'll cry as the film goes from inspired, life-affirming fare to tragedy.

Released in 1961, "West Side Story" was shot on location in Manhattan; the film's gritty aesthetic is juxtaposed by some of the best stylized choreography in film history. This combination shifts from the visual sensibility to the performances as well as stagey, melodramatic performance finds itself in the same film as powerful, grounded acting. The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards and won 10, including Best Picture.
