The Velveteen Rabbit: A Puppet Musical at The Shipyard Shops on the Wilmington Riverfront

Bootless Stageworks presents The Velveteen Rabbit: A Puppet Musical, based on the classic children’s book by Margery Williams with lyrics and music by Simon Chan. In 2009, Bootless Stageworks teamed up with Australian composer-lyricist, Simon Chan, to re-imagine Mr. Chan’s original script and score for the classic children’s story. Full of lush and beautiful music, as fully orchestrated by David Lazar, Mr. Chan’s original adaptation is engaging family entertainment. The Velveteen Rabbit, A Puppet Musical is a live, interactive musical for all ages performed using a combination of hand/glove puppets and body puppets to tell the tale of Velveteen’s journey from an ordinary toy rabbit stuffed with sawdust to a real rabbit filled with love. Joining Velveteen (Lisle Hummerston) in the nursery are Rag Doll (Emma Driban), Clockwork Mouse (Andrea Greenwald), Skin Horse (James W. Fuerst), Teddy Bear (James Scotland), Monkey (Hayden Reed), Steamy (Andre N. Jones) and Choo-Choo (Melissa Baker). Can The Boy (Hunter Reed) love Velveteen enough or will Velveteen burn in the fire before the Dewdrop Fairy (Hailey Weiner) can make him real?

The Velveteen Rabbit, A Puppet Musical opens March 24 in The Shipyard Shops on the Riverfront in Wilmington. For an additional price on Saturday mornings, patrons can enjoy a catered breakfast with “bunnies” from Velveteen’s Bunnyland. Breakfast with Bunnies tickets must be purchased in advance.
