As the Salem Witch Trials proceed, Millers classic drama winds fear, paranoia, lust, and greed into a real American tragedy. Written in 1953 under the shadow of McCarthyism, The Crucible cries out against zealotry, bigotry, and the willingness to turn on another for personal gain in a masterpiece that is a both a gripping historical play and a timely parable for our current society.
