With Sweeney Todd, Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler crafted a tasty, thrilling theatrical treat. One of Sondheim’s finest and most memorable works, it is a musical like no other – the darkest of comedies, a meaty drama, a tasty love story, a culinary crime and a ‘barber’ous tale of revenge. Saturday, September 19 is opening night for The Candlelight Theatre’s production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The production, running through November 1, features a cast of the some of the best actors in the tri-state area. Based on the 1973 play of the same name by Christopher Bond, the show is a winner of 8 Tony Awards and 9 Drama Desk Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score.
