Many area businesses are supporting the benefit performance scheduled by Possum Point Players at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10. The theatre group presents Anne Colwell and James Keegan in "The Guys" with proceeds being shared with the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company and the Chad Spicer Memorial Fund.

Set as a memorial observance of the 15th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, the event honors fallen heroes and will benefit local ones. Included in those donating food and drink for a reception or providing raffle items are Teller Wines, So Del Concepts, Azafran, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, Arena's, The Upper Crust, Georgetown Liquors, Pizza Palace, 16 Mile Brewery and The Brick Hotel. The Brick Hotel is also offering a pre-show special, 4 p.m. - 5 p.m., which features a choice of four $15 entrees; for information, www.thebrickhotel.com.

Tickets are $40 and include the performance and a following reception. The reception includes light hors d'oeuvres and desserts. Representatives of the Chad Spicer Memorial Fund and Georgetown Fire Company will be present to distribute information and discuss their organizations.

Tickets may be purchased at www.possumpointplayers.orghttp://www.possumpointplayers.org, or by calling 302-856-4560. Performance and reception are at Possum Hall, 441 Old Laurel Road, Georgetown.

Director of "The Guys," Nina Galerstein said the play is not just about the obvious - the terrible loss of lives in the New York fire department - but it is also about the loss of innocence, of "life as we knew it," for every single person living in New York and our country. She said the performances of Colwell and Keegan are incredible.

"This is a one-time opportunity to see two exceptionally fine actors in a very moving and meaningful theatre performance," she said. "Don't miss this one."

"The Guys" takes place only a few weeks after Sept. 11, 2001, and is based on the true life experience of a surviving fire company commander and a journalist. Struggling with creating eulogies for eight fallen comrades, the first responder seeks someone to help him find the right words.

Galerstein said, "My wish for the audience is to not only remember Sept. 11, 2001, and to honor the first responders, but also to leave the theater being moved because this is a truly wonderful play."

"The Guys" is being produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

Possum Point Players is supported, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
