FUN HOME Makes Delaware Community Theater Premiere At Wilmington Drama League
Wilmington Drama League proudly kicks off their 2018-19 Season with the Delaware Community Theater premiere of the 2015 Tony Award winning musical, "Fun Home",
With music by Jeanine Tesori ("Caroline or Change", "Shrek the Musical") and book and lyrics by Lisa Kron, "Fun Home" brings to life Alison Bechdel's 2006 graphic novel of the same name as she explores the lives of her Pennsylvania family and the ties that bind and break a family. Fun Home features Direction by Chris Turner, Music Direction by Kelly Davis Kline, Choreography by Kim Turner and Assistant Direction by Jane Haracz.
When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. Moving between past and present, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family's Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing awareness of her own sexuality and the looming, unanswerable questions about her father's hidden desires. The five-time Tony Award-winning Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes
Fun Home features the talents of Kristen Tosh- Morelli, Marion Jackson, Addie Nourie, Mackenzie Brockmeyer, Nicholas D'Argenio, Ruthie Chandler, Ben Nourie, Zoey Strasser, and Alex Cook.
The Off-Broadway production of Fun Home opened on October 22, 2013, to positive reviews. Ben Brantley of The New York Times spoke of the musical's emotional impact, artistry and universality, calling it a "beautiful heartbreaker of a musical".
Fun Home! will have performances on Friday and Saturday, September 14, 15 and September 21 and 22 at 8:00 pm. Additionally, matinees will take place on Sundays September 16 and 23 at 2:00 pm at Wilmington Drama League, 10 W. Lea Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19809. Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors/students and $12 for children. Seating is reserved, and tickets can be purchased at the door beginning one hour prior to the start of the show.
