Dreamers United's SOUTHERN GIRLS Runs 2/21-23

Southern Girls follows six childhood friends, three African American and three Caucasian girls. Their experiences hold them together as youngsters, and then threaten their relationships as they mature and their lives reflect an era of change and growing pains in the south. A production of the Dreamers United affiliate of Possum Point Players, performances are at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 23.

Set in southern Alabama in the early 1950s, the girls' lives are innocently intertwined during childhood and into their "tween" years. What was once the invisible line of discrimination becomes more pronounced as they grow into teenagers. With passage of the years, adulthood brings more awareness; their world changes and their dreams are affected by the turbulent times of the era.

Cast members are Kori Lewandowski of Bridgeville; Summer Okoye of Millsboro; Sierra Marie Riedel of Harbeson; Madelyn Baum of Gumboro; Baleigh Nicole Lambert of Millsboro and Melanie Showell, also of Millsboro. "Southern Girls" is directed by Claudius Bowden, Jr. of Georgetown.

Tickets are $10 general admission, there are no reserved seats, and tickets are sold only at the door.

Possum Point Players is supported, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
