VTA Announces Partnership with Dayton's Chapter of The Links, Inc.

By: Oct. 17, 2011

Victoria Theatre Association announces a special partnership with the Dayton area women's organization, The Dayton Chapter of The Links, Incorporated concentrating on providing educational opportunities and scholarships for Dayton Public Schools students.

"The partnership between Victoria Theatre Association and The Dayton Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will enable us to take our ‘Links to Literacy' program to the next level," says Belinda Matthews-Stenson, President of the Dayton Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. "This initiative will allow us to create and support opportunities for educating Dayton Public Schools students beyond the classroom."

With a vision to improve the quality of life for the members of the Dayton community and become the premier community service organization in the greater Dayton Area, the Dayton Chapter of The Links, Incorporated has donated over $1 million in contributions, scholarships and in-kind services. Through their partnership with Victoria Theatre Association, the Dayton Chapter will provide scholarships (through application) to Dayton Public Schools to offset expenses to attend the Physicians for Kid Discovery Series as well as scholarships to the annual Education & Engagement summer camp. The 2012 summer camp will be held in June in conjunction with the 2011-2012 Miami Valley & Good Samaritan Hospitals Broadway Series presentation of the blockbuster musical, Wicked.

"This partnership provides students with a live theatre experience in their own historic Victoria Theatre for the Physicians for Kids Discovery Series presentations this season, "says Ken Neufeld, President & CEO of Victoria Theatre Association and the Arts Center Foundation. "The Discovery Series connects with the ‘Links to Literacy' program as it follows the Ohio Department of Education Academic Standards and Benchmarks. By underwriting scholarships and workshops, The Dayton Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will be making a positive impact on the lives of students in Dayton."

The Links, Incorporated partnership will also include special engagements and workshops for students at Wogaman Elementary School, collaborating with VTA's resident companies and additional education and engagement projects.
