Shadowbox Live Announces The Passing Of Co-Founder

Shadowbox Live Announces The Passing Of Co-Founder ImageThe metaperformers of Shadowbox Live are saddened to announce the passing of our founder, Stev Guyer. He passed Thursday morning (March 29) after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Not surprisingly, he was a rock star until the very end.

Stev Guyer was born September 4, 1954. He co-founded Shadowbox Live in 1989, and oversaw every aspect of performance and production of the company in the subsequent twenty-nine years. Under Guyer's guidance and direction, he developed a team of people who helped Shadowbox Live grow from humble beginnings as squatters in a downtown warehouse into the largest resident ensemble theater company in America, employing over 50 full time/part time artists. Not content to live exclusively behind the scenes, Guyer performed as well, appearing onstage at Shadowbox Live as a versatile singer and musician.

Guyer believed strongly in the Columbus Community and was a strong advocate for innovative artistic collaboration. He exemplified this by producing numerous productions with various Columbus arts organizations/institutions including BalletMet, Opera Columbus, Jazz Arts Group, Columbus Museum of Art, GCAC and CCAD.

He was a lover of the outdoors and enjoyed rock climbing, hiking and biking in addition to reading and composing music. His presence will be missed but his spirit will undoubtedly carry on.

He is survived by his son Gabriel, grandson Flynn Indiana ("Fig"), and a tenacious organization that is fiercely devoted to sharing the joy of life and the power of the human spirit through their artistic works.

Information on a public memorial will be forthcoming.

Any condolences or letters of support can be sent to Shadowbox Live's offices: 503 S Front, STE 260, Columbus, OH 43215

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Stev Innovation Fund can be made at http://www.shadowboxlive.org/s-innovation-fund
