Human Race Theatre Announces Schwartz Musical Theatre Scholarship Results

By: Mar. 02, 2010

A Wright State University freshman topped the competition in The Human Race Theatre Company's Third Annual Stephen Schwartz Musical Theatre Scholarship and received the $3500 award from the great composer himself. Charity Farrell wowed the judges and a sellout crowd at the Mathile Theatre of the Schuster Center with her renditions of "A New Life" from Jekyll & Hyde and "Stranger to the Rain" from Schwartz's Children of Eden.

For the first time in the competition, the audience as a group had a vote - and the audience agreed with the judges in the case of both Farrell and runner-up Andrew Koslow, a University of Oklahoma junior from Springboro. Koslow's selections were "Building a Wall" from Shrek and "Dancing Through Life" from Schwartz's Wicked.

Koslow received a $1500 scholarship award from Schwartz at the March 1 event. The other five finalists each received $150 scholarships.

The Victoria Theatre Association participated in the scholarship finals this year, a natural tie-in to its current presentation of Wicked. Daniel Torres of the Wicked cast served as emcee, and other cast members performed at the show.
