Encore Theater Company Opens ALTAR BOYZ, Announces SPRING AWAKENING
Encore Theater Company will open it's summer season June 16-18 with the Dayton premiere of Altar Boyz and simultaneously announces the regional premiere of the Tony-winning musical Spring Awakening.
Altar Boyz is a foot-stomping, rafter-raising, musical comedy about a fictitious Christian boy-band on the last night of their national "Raise the Praise" tour. The Boyz are five all-singing, all-dancing heartthrobs from Ohio: Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham. With their tight harmonies and spectacular choreography, the Altar Boyz will delight you as they perform their signature hits such as "Rhythm In Me," "The Calling," and "I Believe." The perfect show for those who love (and to love to make fun of) boy bands!
The show features direction and choreography by ETC company member Lauren Morgan and music direction by Mark Barnhill (also an ETC company member). The cast features Zach King, Zach Steele, Drew Bowen, Korey Harlow, and Andrew Koslow. The show will also feature local Muse Machine Alumnus and Broadway star Tyler Maynard as "the Voice of God". Maynard starred in the original Off-Broadway cast of Altar Boyz. Performances will be held at Sinclair Theatre's Blair Hall at 8PM each night. More information about the show and links to purchase tickets can be found at www.AltarBoyzDayton.com, additionally tickets can be ordered at Sinclair Theatre's Box Office at (937) 512-2808 (be sure to leave a message).
Following another season of new musicals in development and a partnership with the Human Race Theatre Company in August, Encore Theater Company is pleased to announce the regional premiere of the Tony-Award winning musical Spring Awakening for January 2012. Winner of 8 TONY Awards, including Best Musical, Spring Awakening celebrates the unforgettable journey from youth to adulthood with a power, poignancy, and passion unlike any musical of its time. Featuring a score by acclaimed songwriter and singer Duncan Sheik and adapted from Frank Wedekind's 1891 expressionist play about the trials, tears, and exhilaration of the teen years, it has been hailed as the "Best Musical of the Year" by the New York Times, New York Post, Star Ledger, Journal News, New York Observer, and USA Today.
