Dayton Ballet Announces 11-12 Season; Includes The Haunted Series

Kettering Health Network presents Dayton Ballet Association's 2011-2012 season featuring world premieres and timeless favorites. Audiences will experience world premiere performances full of imagination, passion and mystique as Dayton Ballet presents the world premiere of Sleepy Hollow, rings in the holiday season with The Nutcracker, the tragically romantic Madame Butterfly and a repertory show that kicks off Dayton Ballet's 75th Anniversary Diamond Celebration.

"Dayton Ballet's 74th season is going to be one our audiences won't want to miss," says Dayton Ballet's incoming Executive Director, Kathy Reed. Reed joins newly appointed Artistic Director, Karen Russo Burke, in their first season at the helm of the organization. "With Karen's imaginative and unique skills of story-telling through movement, our talented dancer's athleticism and dramatic abilities will be showcased in every way."

"Dayton Ballet is dedicated to maintaining the strong foundation established by our founder," says Russo Burke. "We will continue Miss Jo's tradition of producing new and exciting works for the people of the Miami Valley. And, while we are enjoying the 2011-2012 season, we will also be looking toward and planning for our diamond anniversary in 2012-2013!"

The Haunted Series
Sleepy Hollow- World Premiere
Hyding Inside
October 20-23, 2011 ~ Victoria Theatre

Dayton Ballet's new Artistic Director, Karen Russo Burke begins the season with a haunting world premiere of Sleepy Hollow. Russo Burke's ballet, Hyding Inside, returns with its critically acclaimed depiction of man's inner struggle between good and evil. Loosely based on Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Hyding Inside explores the depths of the human psyche in this thrilling and mystifying story.

Dayton Ballet's The Nutcracker
December 9-11 and 16-18, 2011-~ Schuster Center

Infused with a splash of Dayton history, Dayton Ballet's annual production of The Nutcracker has become a cherished holiday tradition for countless families and friends in the Miami Valley. Over 100 local children participate alongside the Dayton Ballet Company, sharing the beloved story of a young Virginia "Jinny" Weiffenbach (Kettering), a magical nutcracker, scurrying little mice and the Sugar Plum Fairy.

The Romance Series
Madame Butterfly- World Premiere
February 9-12, 2012 ~ Victoria Theatre

Romance, passion and tragedy ignite the Victoria Theatre stage with a world premiere performance of Karen Russo Burke's Madame Butterfly. Based on the 1898 short story by John Luther Long, Madame Butterfly promises to be a wonderful way to spend your Valentine's weekend. Keeping with the romance theme, Dayton Ballet will also feature two additional repertory selections in this production.

The Spring Series
Kick-off to Dayton Ballet's 75th Anniversary Diamond Celebration!
March 15-18, 2012 ~ Victoria Theatre

Come prepared to this performance for refreshingly new ballets to Dayton Ballet's repertoire. Dayton Ballet's Spring Series kicks off a year long tribute to Dayton Ballet's 75th Anniversary Diamond Celebration season. A highlight of the production will be a classical ballet choreographed by Dayton Ballet company veteran, Justin Michael Koertgen.
