Village Dance Center is a Jacksonville, Florida studio directed by Karen Norris, offering classes for students from preschool through 12th grade. Preschool and kindergarten pupils take a ballet/tap combination class with acrobatics, with the Monday preschool class reserved for children walked over from the ESJ St. Mark's campus. Students in grades one to four may enroll in ballet, jazz, tap and acrobatics, each treated as a separate class with its own recital dance and costume; grades five to 12 add pointe, which requires teacher approval and concurrent enrollment in ballet technique. An advanced open ballet class focuses on technique, stretching and conditioning, and ballet leads are cast from it. Dancers at level 5 or above may audition for the Company, which requires at least four classes a week. Students in 8th grade and above can serve as class assistants, and classes are levelled as dancers mature.
