Winspear Opera House Presents AMERICAN IDIOT, Now thru 5/20
The Winspear Opera House welcomes the AMERICAN IDIOT national tour, the punk rock adaptation of Green Day's conceptual album of the same name from tongiht, May 11 through May 20.
AMERICAN IDIOT is a one-act, sung-through stage musical that infuses traditional story telling with the steampunk, electro-explosive music of Green Day. Centered around three friends, Johnny, Will, and Tunny, the show displays the stifling atmosphere of suburbia and their parents' restrictions. Turning to the urban jungle, the friends attempt to find the vibrancy of life - and the methods to get through it unscathed.
The cast includes Broadway veteran Van Hughes as Johnny, with Jake Epstein as Will, and Scott J. Campbell as Tunny. AdditionAl Green Day songs were interpolated from other sources, including 21st Century Breakdown and the American Idiot b-sides. Original direction is by Michael Mayer.
AMERICAN IDIOT was nominated in 2010 for three Tony Awards, including best musical. The show closed on Broadway in April 2011, and subsequently launched the first U.S. national tour, which is scheduled to travel throughout 2012.
